Florence suggestions?

Hi guys -

Any suggestions for a centralized Florence hotel with parking? I've been reading booking.com all night and wanted to see if you guys had any suggestions. Thanks!

How "central" do you need to be? How much are you willing to spend? Depending on your answers, look at the Villa Cora. It is across the river and just above the Boboli. It has parking, a pool, very good service, and a quiet location. It had free 10-min van service to and from the absolute city center .

I'll have to check that out. We're only going to be there for 3 nights. Four of our friends are actually going to be in Florence the same days and they're staying right in the city centre. Of course not driving a car

This is my first visit there so I really don't know the city. If this place has a van to shuttle that sounds very nice to me. Thank you!

Great hotel, about 4-5 blocks from Ponte Vecchio across the river, if you book them request parking and they provide it on-site behind a locked gate. Let me know if you want photos of the hotel, I've got a few from our last ED.

Florence Hilton Metropole

I just spent 3 nights at the Florence Hilton Metropole. We are leaving back to Munich tomorrow (Thursday AM). We took delivery of a ActiveHybrid 7 so parking was a very important concern. The hotel has a huge underground garage for 10 euro's a night with lots of maneuvering room for a 7 as well as space for a big car. The hotel offers shuttle service to the central station in Florence which is walking distance to almost everything you would want to see. The hotel has great access to the A1 Autostrada too for easy jaunts to the Tuscan hill towns. I guess it will depend on what car you are getting if you want to venture into central Florence. I would be nervous trying to navigate the narrow streets of Florence in a 7, 5 or hell even a new 3 (which is a big car by Florence standards). Navigation is almost essential IMHO.

Have fun!

I stayed at the Westin Excelcior right on the river two long blocks from ponte vecchio. If you are a starwood gold or amex platinum member, they will upgrade you to a huge balcony suite right next to the river.Valet parked car at the garage during the stay. You will not need the car in florence nor will you want to drive it there. Central Florence is essentially not drivable and with all the city driving restriction, you will be getting so many tickets it will not be worth the headache. The BMW navigation or any navigation may not be very helpful in central Florence as the roads are constantly being changed and blocked to traffic. It took me 4 go arounds through a congested intersection to get out of Florence cause the Nav pointed me to a road that was blocked recently.

I don't have a hotel suggestion, but I wanted to wish you a wonderful time. I loved the food and museums in Florence, and really want to go back. Even if you stay a bit out of the way don't worry about getting to the center of town, it's not that big. We stayed over by the train station and it was an easy walk around.

I've stayed at Riva Lofts twice. http://www.rivalofts.com/ Featured in BMW Magazine before and in World's Coolest Hotel Rooms. They also offer bikes to get around Florence which is invaluable. One of my favorite hotels I've ever stayed in my life. More like a boutique bed and breakfast.

restaurant suggestions. Four D'Aqua for incomparable fine italian dining. Pricey but worth it. There is a pizza place right across from the restaurant which is also excellent and one of the best pizza's and italian food I've ever had.Make reservations for the Uffizi and Academia museums through the hotel concierge. they will charge you a fee but it's worth saving several hours of waiting especially for Academia if you want to see statue of David.

If you plan to see the statue of David, I recommend that you get your tickets before you go over there.

We did 3 nights in Florence a few years ago. Never again will I drive a new bmw into town. Streets are just too crowded and drivers are crazy, especially the Vespa gangs . I suggest staying outside town a little or use a lot outside town. If you choose to drive into town, GET NAV or you may hate life. We just drove into a parking garage and left the car the whole time. But the drive in and drive out was stressful as heck. I mean horrible uncomfortable. If you want to see the Uffizi (spelling), better get tickets ahead of time. We didnt and the lines were really bad.

Driving on the other side of the river (where b-y says) is fine. Do not drive on the "main side" of the river. Nightmarish, and you're likely to get a ticket. The extent of my driving in Florence has been to get a rental car in mid-town, follow the careful instructions on how to get out, and then leave.

PS> I cannot speak for garage, but I've stayed here twice - LOVE it.

Antica Torre di via Tornabuoni. Rooftop terrace. Small writeup on my hotel thread. If you can find a parking garage in Florence, park there instead and then you aren't bound to a hotel that has its own garage.

I'll second hotel David! Very secure parking with gates that they close at night. Great location as well.

There is a spectacular leather glove shop there that I highly recommend there, but I have forgotten the name. You should check out leather with cashmere lining.
