MZ4 engine valve train noise?

A friend of mine leased a 2006 MZ4 that was a BMW performance center car before he leased it. The car has 6200 miles on it with valve train noise/ ticking. Is it normal for that engine to have some noise? He wanted me to ask.

Thanks,

Craig

ticking=vanos

Hopefully he is covered under a warranty to repair the vanos. there were quite a few discussions on the virtues of buying a performance center vehicle in the this forum. The ticking could be 1) Vanos 2) valves out of of adjustment 3) low oil or something more dubious

Yup - for me happens from 2500 to 3500 rpm. I thought this was weird too until I saw the info in this forum. You might search Vanos / ticking and see what you get.

Yes, he's covered under a new car warranty. The car wasn't titled before, so it's considered a new car from what he told me.

Thanks for your reply,

Craig

Did he have a BMW dealer print out the cars Vehicle History when he purchased it?

Yes, the car had like $8700.00 worth of repairs. It's been re-painted and has new wheels and tires. Nothing about engine repairs. I think he's lucky he leased the car.

You'd be surprised...we talked to the guys at the PC during homecoming and BMW re-furbs the cars to "as-new" status and sells them by auction to dealers as close to new status.

Maybe the repainted cars have less orange peel than the new ones do

Probably related to all those laps around the course at 7000 rpm in second gear...

The Imola Red MC that I drove at the Performance Center when I picked up my Coupe sounded like a thrashing machine.....
