code 1222

hello all new 89 325i owner, i just got it knowing it has issues, the previous owner just had a head gasket put on and the guy that did it was a novice, anyway after the job was done its running pig rich, i am getting a code 1222 lambda.cant find any air leaks, i used the search button and came up with several causes, i am leaning toward the o2 sensor because antifreeze can foul a 02 sensor in a hurry, but the 02 code is 1221 and that code is not stored. the afm operates smooth with no tight spots and the coolant sensor is new, fuel pressure is a steady 38 psi. was wondering if the the timing belt was off a tooth would it have these symtoms because he metioned that the timing may be off,the car idles fine and reponds well to throttle but the raw hydrocarbons will bring tears to year eys, i am going behind someone elses work and trying to get some answers from this guy is a little difficult, any help is appriciated,

1222 is O2 sensor regulator code

once the O2 sensor is repaired the 1222 should go away....

also if the car runs lean or rich for more than 10 seconds the code comes on,ex: if you run seafoam it will come on or adapt to a chip or injectors or AFM. reset the battery and see if it comes back, could of just been a one time deal.

when a hg blows the burnt antifreeze gets into the sensor and kills it, not all the time but sometimes, i work on some older dodge turbo cars and they are famous for it.
