BMW planning to produce 100,000/yr
Base model price in Europe will start from $30K

It doesn't look that much smaller than the X3. Is it supposed to replaced X3? or slot in below X3?

That was my initial reaction too. But I think it's mainly due to the CG renderings of the car. In the video where Adrian VH introduces the X1, it looks MUCH better. I kinda like it now.

A BMW spokesperson said it probably won't be coming to the US because of the financial situation.

Where did you read that? The current plan is for all SAVs and SACs to be built in Spartanburg. I guess it would be possible for the car to be built for export only, but I'd say that's pretty unlikely.

The next generation X3 will be growing. The X1 will supposedly share its platform with the upcoming MINI crossover thingie.

Hmmm. Possible, but I think that official is just floating a trial balloon. If it's made here then the business case should be palatable--certainly more palatable than exporting a rest-of-the-world-only SAV.

Well, that's the point. Even though the new X3 will be made in the US, the X1 won't be.

Ok. never mind.. X1 is way better looking.

Actually I view this as a kind of SUV-meets-hot-hatch concept. I kinda like it, depending on how usable it is, since most hot hatchbacks are very useful given their size.

So this is what happens when a C30 and an Isetta get far too drunk and have unprotected sex!

It certainly looks better in Silver than that ugly-ass golden-orange. I like the black roof, does that mean it'll have a huge moonroof like the X3? It's supposed to be more affordable but it'll have iDrive (and xeons and PDC)? $30k or €30k?
I love my X3 but a loaded 2009 going for $50k is farking ridiculous.

These are old chops from a while back. The pictures of top are of the actual car. I have seen the proportions and lines, the silver car does not match up and the nose is much more pig like..... like the gold car. You will see it this week in full form.
