Do you like the new 3-series design?

Now that BMW has made the announcement that the 3-series is being released to the world in March 2005, what do you think about the design of the car?

The pictures and video I've seen look ok, but I won't decide for sure until I've seen the car in person. I just leased my car a couple of months ago, so the e90 should be pretty well debugged by the time I have to make the decision to keep mine or give it back at lease end. Based on what I've seen so far and what the performance of the e90 engines should be like in a few years, I can see the possibility of an e90 sitting in my garage.

Like the exterior a lot, dislike the interior even more.

Kinda with Plaz, but I want to see it. Going to be hard to top the E46 though, I really like the design (duh).

IMHO this poll can be significantly improved to get a true picture buy asking two separate questions about the design - one about the exterior design and another for interior.

Exterior:
Interior: Initial impression , but maybe it will grow over time.

Exterior: not as bad as I feared but still some things I don't like
Interior: dash facia is a disaster, overall looks cheap in the pics

Overall: no I might go elsewhere by that time, or find used E46s...

Exterior, looks good in the pics, interior I'm not sure about. Will wait to see in person before deciding.

I voted that it might grow on me but the taillights and interior just ruin the whole thing. Sort of the way I'd never even consider an IS300 until they get rid of that awful chrono look for the speedo/tach.

I think that the new 3 series is gonna be great. especially with the new mag. engine.

As my boyfriend (who's really *not* a car person) just said, "why are they trying to make it look like a Japanese car?" And what happened to the nice driver-oriented sweep in the interior?

I guess, on the bright side, my e46 coupe's value will hold.

Don't bet on it.

I don't love the exterior, but its not horrible iethre. IT does sort of look like a Japanese car, but its wa better than the e60 or e65. Its the interior that Ireally can't stand (in both 1 lump and 2 lump versions).

Agreed. The humps don't bother me. The 1980s Buick-like lack of driver orientation does.

Yep-- that's what I meant. Even without the ugly screen hump, the interior still looks cheesy and 80s American car. But, it is BMW's best to date (among its latest models). I would really love to see a good explanation for why they did away w/ the driver oriented dash. I'm sure the real answer was simply cost.

That would be my guess... With a flat dash, there are fewer parts that have to be made special for a left vs right side orientations.

it looks like a Honda Accord, inside and out, no joke. Let's face it, iDrive is not a driver-oriented technology. You shouldn't have to navigate menus on-screen while driving (especially if you have a stick ). The whole interior is cheaper and more generic-looking, less of a cockpit than in an E46. And the exterior design reminds me of a fat man in pleated pants. I will say though, I'll be glad to go check out the new magnesium engines....

What are you talking about?

I believe this is one elegant design that BMW did that kept classic E3 series look.

I don't like the head light and tail light design. I think the facelifted E46 had that killer look(at least the ZHP did)

Don't like the part that the kidney grill is not part of the hood.

Haven't seen the interior to make comparisons.

Not to speak ill of the wrongly employed, they really do need to be rid of him. I'm sure he'd do very well at chrysler or GM or some other appliance manufacturer, but if he could just leave BMW as he found it I'd be satisfied.
