What does the cluster display tell? Oil change or inspection?

Here's how it goes:

Oil change: every 15K miles
Inspection 1: every 30K miles
Inspection 2: every 60K miles

Inspection 2 is Inspection 1 + some other things.
Inspection 1 is Oil change + some other things.

If you know the maintenance history of the car, there is a good chance that you need Inspection 1. If not, just go with Inspection 2 to play it safe. There is a sticky thread at the top of this page where you can learn about what is included in Inspection 2.

Just remember that Inspection 2 is little more than a glorified oil change and staring at a lot of parts. I'd do it yourself and save the $500 BMW charges (or more) as it is a waste.

Like others have mentioned, officially, 75k is just an oil change - but that assumes you did a full inspection II at 60k. BMW says that Inspection II is just an inspection + air filters + oil. I changed my water pump/thermostat/spark plugs/belts/hoses/fuel filter/tranny & diff fluids/coolant/oil at 60k...

This is what Inspection 2 SHOULD be!

Smolck,

You are right, Lvl II should include the WP/thermo/plugs/belts/hoses/fuelfilter/coolent change/brake fluid change/oil/ etc.

Unfortunately it doesnt. I have about 30K mi left on my CPO coverage. I am deciding if I want to go ahead and do this maintenance now, or let it ride and if anything goes wrong before the 100k mi mark, let my coverage cover what might go wrong.

I know, if you like the car and want to drive it for a long time, do the preventative maintenance. I just have a hard time justifying it to the wifey that I am doing all this work while the car is under warranty!!

Does your wife understand the difference between WARRANTY and MAINTENANCE? If not, you should perhaps explain it. Or perhaps you could explain the cost of inconvenience caused by a car breaking down on the side of the highway. If a belt breaks or hose bursts, you're out $50 (deductible), late for work, have to get a loaner, then have to pick up the car... when the hoses are both under $50 to just buy...

Does she let you change the oil?
