Instrument pack cruise control indicator light out...

Hi,

I noticed that I have a few indicator lights out in my instrument cluster: the cruise control on/off light, and the gear selector 1, 2, 3 lights for transmission manual mode.

Not having the gear selector lights are okay, since I don't use the manual mode anyway, but not having the cruise control on/off light is pretty inconvenient when driving on highways.

My cruise control works perfectly fine. But I honestly have no idea why the indicator light doesn't illuminate.

I found some instrument pack repair services on eBay, but none of them is willing to repair the indicator light. Maybe it's not the indicator light's problem, some say. Even if it is, the LED is welded to the circuit board so it's very difficult to replace.

Anyone has any idea? Thanks!

What appears when you do OBC TEST 2? If you don't know what this is...just google it...there are hundreds of BMW OBC TEST 2 videos on YouTube.

Hi there,

Thanks for the reply! I really appreciate it.

My test result is interesting...

Test #02 is supposed to be "illuminate all indicator lights", but mine absolutely does NOT illuminate ALL lights... Here's what I got.

I got the needles sweep, I got the LCD dots light up (horribly due to missing pixels, and for the indicator lights, I got these:

high beam;
turn signals;
low fuel level;
front fog light; rear fog light;
P/R/N/D/5/4

That's all. Yes, that's all.

Those do not illuminate are:

battery charge/alternator;
oil pressure;
check engine;
3/2/1;
park brake;
brake;
ABS;
SRS;
cruise control;
fasten seat belt

Okay. But I can, or may, confirm that these bulbs are fine:

battery, oil pressure and check engine: all illuminate when ignition is in proper position before cranking;
park brake: illuminate when park brake is engaged;
brake: not sure;
ABS: illuminate after battery is disconnected, goes out after reset;
SRS: used to illuminate when there was a fault code, went out after clearing code;

As for the remaining...

Cruise control never illuminates even when cruising;
fasten seat belt never illuminates even when not buckling up;
3/2/1 never illuminate even when respective gear is selected.

Here's my guess. The five bulbs that never illuminate are ALL adjacent to each other: CC and seat belt are on the lower row of the far right-hand-side box; 3/2/1 are right next to them on the middle-right box.

Does it sound like an instrument pack circuit problem?
