Front Emblem Sticker
So, I went into Manhattan last night and parked my car...came back and was wondering why the logo on top of my hood is sooo shiny. Well, the sticker was gone...someone peeled it off while I parked there for 1/2 hr. Where and how much to replace that sticker? Thanks...

No one peeled it off. It just came off over time. No one is going to stand there and take it off unless they wanted the full badge. Its hard to peel it off cleanly.

Thanks...they are selling the emblems for around $15 on ebay. I still have the emblem but no sticker. I guess no where sells just the sticker? I remembered someone over here at the forum was giving aways some free sticker emblems.
Hummm...if thats the case, I guess its just a coincidence that its missing after I parked in Manhattan. |

Just get the replacement emblem with laminated sticker thereon and replace the whole emblem--looks better and will last longer than just a new sticker. Plenty to choose on ebay. As said, once the laminate has been compromised, a good washing rain or car wash will destroy it pronto.

Mine has been degrading for about a year now ... I'm getting used to the silver taking over the BMW emblem, ever so slowly!

The pop off took me a while but eventually it'll work itself off (sts). The pop on is much easier...EBAY worked for me.

someone probably scraped your emblem and tried to do something to it. it should degrade over months, not cleanly disappear overnight

It's a small point, but I find it difficult to believe that someone took the time and care to scratch off a worthless sticker from the hood of your car while you were out for 1/2 hour, but not simply brush by your car with a key on the side of it if they wanted to screw with it or you. More likely you just noticed it was completely gone after it had washed away. My OEM hood ornament on a different BMW than my current one disappeared in about a day after water got under the laminate. Anyway, it doesn't matter much.

You'd think so, but a while back I washed my car and then went to the grocery store. It was there when I left the house and when I got to the store I had a shiny chrome circle on the hood. Seven minute drive at 45 to 55 mph was all it took. So far, I've replaced the hood emblem three times, and the trunk once. Not a bad idea to buy an extra when you get yours.

I agree, buy a couple sets; those on Ebay I've found to be uniformly good quality and less costly than OEM. I cringe whenever I see people driving around with destroyed BMW hood emblems, even on other-wise well-kept Bimmers. I see it all the time; it just looks sloppy.

The grommets are the only things that really secure the emblem to the hood...I consider them to be like condoms...one use only. Grommet #15 for the hood (BMW part # 51 14 1 807 495) - the e39 uses two different emblems & grommets...the hood and trunk/tailgate has different size badges& grommets compared to many other BMW models that have the same size for both hood & trunk.

There is nothing else needed for installation of the emblem. You simply pop the old one off and make sure the grommets stay in the car, if not remove from old emblem and put them there, then press new emblem in place, and done. 10 minute job tops. You may want to get a soft plastic trim tool from a local discount auto store to aid in easy removal of the old one. |

20 posts so far. It's been called an emblem, ornament, and a logo. While all these descriptions technically apply, there is a name for it. It's called a Roundel.

The "Roundel" is the design thingy that is missing from the original poster's "badge", "emblem", "logo", "plaque", "ornament" etc. And since the sentiments from most that replied was to replace the entire item...the badge, ornament, logo, emblem, etc...the names used were actually apropos. As long as we all know what is being referred to...that's all that matters.

I think "roundel" technically refers to the trademarked BMW propeller logo. Emblem is the badge itself that incorporates the roundel logo and ornaments the hood and trunk...and steering wheel. I think I used all the terms, huh?
