Thanks for the update. My phone is a Samsung Blackjack II, which is on the approved list. But there is a more recent version of Windows Mobile, so perhaps upgrading to that might resolve my issue.

I don't understand. We haven't linked my wife's phone (Blackberry Curve) to the audio system, why should it be causing this just because the phone is in the car?

Is Bluetooth functionality enabled on the phone? If so, there could be some signaling going on between the radio and the phone even though they are not "linked."

I do not have a Bluetooth phone, and I do not have the Bluetooth option on my car. I think that is a rabbit trail. Had the problem again yesterday.

I believe this to be a Blackberry/ Bluetooth problem. I also had the same problem a few days after picking up my 2009 335 coupe...no idrive, CA, premium /bluetooth. At that time there were 3 paired phones in the car...2 Sprint phones and 1 Blackberry phone. The radio displayed locked up, buttons would not work. We returned home and the person with the Blackberry left the car. Shortly after that the radio returned to normal. I have not had the problem since then and the Sprint phones work normally.

Well, my entire system failed about 10 days ago. Took my car to the dealer a few days later and problem was still there, so they were able to diagnose. It ended up being a faulty MULF unit, whatever that is. Picked up car yesterday, everything seems to be working. Took awhile to get the part, since it was initially on backorder.

Finally some light, but what the heck is MULF unit?

Well, problem showed up again this afternoon. Started car, everything dead. Drove to post office, ran inside - not even five minutes, came back out, started car, everything fine.

Anyone else have any ideas?

I had the same problem - gremlins in the radio. Take the car to the dealer and tell them to reset all of the onboard computers. That's what fixed it for me. I had weird locking up problems where the station couldnt be changed or the sat radio didnt work at all.

I have the problem. It's intermittent.

2009 328ix Ipod, bluetooth, Logic 7, Verizon Blackberry Curve 8330

When I called the dealer they told me to they would give me a software upgrade, if available at my next scheduled maint. (in approx 11000 miles) WTF!?

Called back after reading this thread and asked about the MULF. He looked someting up that said somtehing about cars built after 9/08 and said come in. I'm going in tues.

The problem is the whole audio system. When the problem manifests itself for me, I hear no chime when I insert the key and the radio display and is totally dead and there is no sound, none of the buttons work, although my phone does seem to pair to the system, because if I dial on the phone the radio display suddenly shows "Connecting..."

1) Which dealer are you using?

2) Can you let us know what they say a MULF is?

Thanks.

My SA called the MULF a Multi-Frequency Unit or something like that.

I don't believe that is the only problem, since I have a replacement MULF and the problem is still occurring.

Since there so few Verizon phones approved, it would make sense that most of you have a phone that is causing the issue. Even if the phone is on the list, they wanted to check the software version.
Which Verizon phone was thought to be causing the problem? I have a Verizon Blackberry Curve 8330. I also have the problem.

I am starting to think it may be iPod related.

Has anyone had the problem show up after leaving an iPod connected for a long period of time between starts or overnight?

Thinking back, I think that's the situation in my case where the problem displayed itself. Since the last episode, I have not attached my iPod to the system. Waiting for it to manifest itself without an iPod connected.

I'm pretty sure at this point it's not IPod or phone/bluetooth related - I've been having this problem intermittently on my '09 LCI E90 (11/08 build) and I have never used the iPod connection and I have experienced the problem both with and without my bluetooth enabled and in varying degrees of temperature and with different key fobs - haven't had it in for service yet

I have Logic 7 as well - starting to wonder if there's anyone who has reported the problem that doesn't have Logic 7 - maybe there's something with that?

Picked up my car about two hours ago. All is well so far.

They managed to find a fault code and "encoded" the complete vehicle through PROGMAN.

Well now you can add one more car to the list. I've had the car one full week. No problems until tonight. Today everything worked fine all day, went to a meeting tonight, got out of the meeting and had no display on the HD radio at all. Pushed the button to turn it on and got the time. Neither the Audio of the Menu button did anything. I would have panicked about it all, but I remembered that this thread was out there. This was the first time, I think, that I had gotten into the car without my cell phone. It is also a very cold night.

Logic 7, HD radio, no iDrive, iPod has been hooked up non-stop for a few days.

Any updates from you would be helpful.

I had this same problem. I even had started a new thread

I took it to the dealer and they disconnected the battery and reset the computers and it has worked ever since. I had to then reset everything myself inside the car, but that worked.

It seems to be a problem with the 09s -- not sure what is going on -- but that worked for me.
