Radio code and entering 91' 525i

Hello. I just purchased a 1991 BMW 525i. The radio in the car just says CODE.
It looks like the radio has been in the car since it was bought in 91, so it is an old fashioned radio/Casette player.

I called up my local BMW dealer and gave him the radio serial, and he looked up the code for me. So i tried to put in the 5 digit code i received 16326 in the radio, but i just get a BEEP everytime i reach the fifth number. So i don't know what to do..

Please anybody..

Suggest to leave the key in ignition for an hour with the radio on and try again.

Gents,
When you say leave the key in the ignition, is that:
- the key inserted in the ignition only and not turned with radio turn on?
- the key inserted in the ignition and turn to the acc position with the radio on?
- the key inserted in the ignition and the car running with the radio on?

Following the car manual, I'd try driving the car with the radio on for over an hour and still could not get the radio to accept the code - each time ending with a beep. I've all original equipment and code.

I got this one guys!

ok,

heres' what i did

leave the radio off. leave the car on that means not running but the key in the on position for over an hour.....

then with the key still on

turn on the radio wait about 10 seconds or so then slowly and accurately punch in the code you have.

that worked for me as when I bought the car I have no one knew how to do it.

I found it on line....if i can find it i will send ya the link!!!!

Well that worked - kindoff I tried your technique as described and it didn't worked. So, I tried it a second time but with the radio on all that time. After a little more than an hour, punch in the code and voila - it came to life

Now, my other problem is that it doesn't recognize the OEM remote CD player - can't select it at all, and I know there's power to it. If anyone has a suggestion there - I'd welcome it.

This all came about because I'd let my car sit for 2 months outside in freezing temperature and the battery died. Moral of the story, well, disconnect the battery if it's going to sit for any length of time.

Thanks for responding.

Glad it worked for u!!!

Sorry about the info, but am glad ya got it!!

as for the CD in the trunk....this might sound kinda dumb...but.....forgive the dumbness of the question.

do you have a magazine in it with CD's?

if so, take it out (the magazine). then load up with new CDs and re insert when car is warmed up with stereo on.

I know mine wouldn't recognize my cd player until I had a cartrige in it.

hope it helps.....

Wish it was just an over-sight in not having cd's or a cd cassette in the cd changer. Still no luck getting the head unit to see the changer. Check the in-line fuse under the changer and it checks out ...the Bentley manual list another fuse in the rear power distribution box that's associated with the radio....maybe.... but no wiring diagram

In Trunk CD Changer

Maybe this problem your having with the CD not changing CD's on your used BMW 525I is due to NOT HAVING the remote CD charger. E bay has them cheap, get a picture of one for your model and the remotes model number and you could easily be lucky to find one at a wrecking yard (change its batteries).
