I had an interview yesterday. The position was not available that I was interviewing for, but they wanted to bring me in and meet me etc. anyways. My first interview ever, so it was good practice none the less. If they did have an opening it would be a stressful job, and not as flexible as I'd like for hours…. (it would be hard for me to make my class once a week). Any rate, I had a good time. I wasn't really scared or super nervous, granted I read a few books on interviewing before hand (thx Marc). I suppose the pressure was off because I knew they didn't have the position I wanted open, but you never know when things become available.

Again, good practice….and I survived.

Yes...I meant to tell you about this after we talked (I got the call right after we spoke-that evening)... I knew they weren't hiring, but figured it couldn't hurt to talk to them to at least practice talking to a potential employer!

I actually have another question for you about a lead. (regarding making the call that's basically going to go like "Hi Mr. XYD, Mr. ABC told me I should speak with you regarding...blah blah blah"...you get the idea. I have an exam tomorrow night that I've been attempting to prepare for... I will send you a more detailed email tonight/tomorrow!)

Sometimes these type of interviews yield positive results. Either that position materializes or they find a fit for you in other organizations. In today's market, it is a major victory just to get somebody to give you an interview. Best of luck.

Absolutely! Sandy, I was in the same position once. I interviewed for a position that wasn't available and two weeks later I was executive assistant to the CEO.

Nearest BMW dealer is Hahn in Yakima 70 miles away. A bit of a hassle but usually just use regularly scheduled car service as reason to go to Seattle or Portland OR for weekend.

Receives requests from the public at the counter and over the telephone; provides information regarding policies, procedures, regulations and services; receives reports from crime victims; enters and retrieves data regarding inmates and property; receives bail payments and issues receipts; releases found property and impounded vehicles. Patrols the City in a light truck observing for violations or responding to incidents; captures both domestic and wild animals using equipment and methods appropriate for animal abatement and control; picks up dead animals; issues citations, issues licenses while assigned to Animal Control duty; warnings and/or legal notices. WORKING CONDITIONS:

Regular physical contact with arrestees and inmates.
Regular exposure to bodily fluids, potentially infectious diseases, lice, etc.
Animal control activities may require lifting of up to 75 pounds, running, climbing fences and crawling under houses.

LICENSING/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

A valid California Driver’s License.
Positions require successful completion of a three-week jail operations course and certification by the Department of Corrections, which training will be provided by the department after hire.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from High School or GED and one (1) year of experience dealing with the public, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.



Compensation: Level I: $3597-4383/mo.; Level II: $3971-$4838/mo.

Hmm...kind of in the same boat here.

BS in Information Systems Security but no actual hands on experience in my field yet. No one is willing to hire and train anyone it seems.

Checking out a career fair next week though so maybe something will come from that.

I was supposed to go to one yesterday but was not able to make it. I need to start looking around for other options. I graduated back in 05' so i have some time out of school, which is the last time i did anything related to my field of study.

No BMW dealership in the Tri-Cities, what a rip, but like you say a long weekend for an oil change in the Pacific Northwest is not a bad gig. I lived north of Pasco ie Mesa area after high school but originally form Indiana and now I live in Nashville, TN. I am looking for an architecture position but I did see a drafting position or engineering on the website - I could do either. Thanks for the post.
