Shift knob replacement
I wanted to replace the shift knob on my manual 2003 325ci.
I've heard I have to put it in 2nd or 4th, and just yank really hard. This hasnt worked for me so far, and I'm afraid I'm going to break something. Bought the car used, and heres a pic of the current knob thanks

Keep pulling, I have a step, but I almost popped myself in the jaw getting it off. Some people suggest opening the sunroof and straddling center console and pulling like hell. I was able to do it by putting the car in Sport, 2nd gear for you, sitting in the drivers seat and giving it all I had.

Best way to get leverage is to open your sunroof, straddle the console (if you have an armrest it makes a good seat) and put a foot on each seat and pull. (A pillow to protect your nuts is good idea).

Best way to do it is pop it into 2nd or 4th, sit in the middle back seat and straddle the center console. Pull up hard and move your head out of the way. Be careful, I have seen someone crack their sunroof and forehead doing this!

How bout for an auto? Same move or is it different because of the shift loc-button? My G/F wants hers changed out of her 04 325Xi.

On my 5spd '00 528iT, I left work one day after the car sat in the sun in the parking lot, grabbed 2nd getting on the highway and the knob came right off in my hand
 I can laugh about it now, but at the time I felt like driving to my dealer and clubbing somebody over the head with it. Why BMW doesn't just thread them on is beyond me.

When I changed mine, had it in 2nd, and pulled like hell. Popped myself in the cheek bone pretty good. ahaha
