Does anybody have the loaner?

After a year of BMW ownership and varioyus services, I've found that a loaner is never availabe when my car is available for service.

After discussions with other owners , I've come to believe that BMW NA probably has only one.

Anybody on the forum have it today?

I did get a loaner once, it was an old Dodge of some kind that looked and drove like a piece of crap. It didn't leave me stranded but I didn't dare take it to far either. This was the dealer where I bought my BMW, I wouldn't buy another car from them anyway so I guess it didn't matter,

It really depends on the dealership. My dealership only gives loaners to people who get their BMWs from them. So if I schedule my service in advance, I can get a loaner without a problem. All the loaners are 328's btw.

It all depends on the dealer. Some give nothing. Some give other brand cars. Some dealers in large markets like South FLorida will give a 335i or even 6 series.

my dealership (dreyer reinbold, Greenwood, IN) has been very good about giving loaners, but I am usually scheduling service days (or even a week) in advance. Wife has a 5 series, and she usually gets a 5 series, and twice has gotten an X3. I can only think of 2 times over the last almost 5 years when they had to provide a rental, and both times it was a full-size (like a taurus or something). For my G35, they have given Gs or Ms.

Have to say -- I love the service department. They always take care of us -- either with picking the car up and leaving a loaner, or if the wife goes down there, moving car seat, etc into the loaner or driving her to the mall or whatever. I especially love contacting and arranging everything by email. No telephone tag, no leaving messages back and forth, etc.

Come move to Indiana!! But beware, our weather is awful!! Snow hit yesterday -- 3 SEPARATE multi-car accidents (20, 20 and 34 cars), 2 deaths. makes me feel lucky to be alive and have snow tires . . .

It depends on the dealership... Normally they only give out loaner vehicles (BMW and non BMW) to people that buy the car from the dealership. I bought my vehicle through a different dealership than the one we service our cars at (however we have bought 3 other BMW's through them in the past), but since we have a really good standing with our current SA she always hooks us up with loaners.
In order for us to get a BMW loaner we have to specify that we want a BMW loaner and not just a rental car. We usually have to schedule our appointment about 2 weeks in advance in order to get a BMW car.
We have varied from getting 3 series bmws, a 5 series bmw and on occasions we have gotten an X5 and an X3 before.
If we do not get a BMW loaner we will end up getting a really crapy rental car through enterprise. Enterprise has an office in the BMW dealership that we go to so they give you a basic rental car... Usually a KIA, Hyundai, Chevy Cobalt, etc... all base models.
However they do give you an option to upgrade to a nice vehicle, for a fee.. Usually for a Morano, Infinite, or some other type of vehicle that is nice, however this last week my wife said they offered her a Porche 911 for $150.00 for the day or a Masarati for $500.00 for the day. She is lucky she took the car in for service other wise I would of rented one of the two and took the day off of work.

From my understanding, and what my SA told me, each SA is given a certain amount of loaner credits for the month and they are able to use them as they desire, however once they are out of loaner credits they are unable to give out loaners to any clients until the next month. How true that is I am unsure of as this info was told to us from our Service Advisor at one point when she was unable to give us ANY loaner car.

Just got an X3 from a dealer I didn't purchase from. Yeah Russel BMW in Baltimore. The SA did say that the trauma center where I work saved his mother's life, but that could be a coincidence

Russel BMW is the only one I know that gives loaners to non-customers in the DC Baltimore area. I've gotten a 335i and X3 from them before, but they tend to run out so it's a crapshoot, given the fact it takes an hour+ to get up there from my area.

I had that same assumption when I got my first BMW... my advice, try to keep getting the same service advisor and anytime you have problems or need things contact that same person everytime, this way you begin to build a friendship with the Service Advisor... That is what we did and now we wouldnt take our car to anyone else...

We deliver the car and we are out of there within 5 minutes, when we pick up the car it is sitting in the front of the lot waiting for us, washed, cleaned and taken care of. We simply go to our advisors office she stops what she is doing and gets all our paperwork, we sign our slip and we are on our way... It is a VERY smooth and quick process for us. Prior to our current SA, it would take a while to get the car in, they would only wash it if we requested it and when we would pick the car up we would usually have to wait at least 15 to 30 minutes before getting out of there.

My dealer was smart. I dropped of my E46 for service and my loaner was a new E90. It gave me the fever for the 335 and I ended up buying one a year later.

Def depends on the dealer.
The dealer I purchased 4 cars from never once gave me a loaner. If you wanted one you pretty much had to schedule weeks in advance and reserve it (and have your car in for more than a mere oil change).

The dealer where I'm now , which I've never purchased a car from, has given me a loaner every single time I've dropped my car off. Absolutely fabulous service. I was shocked the first time since I'd never spent a dime there and they gave me a nice new e90 w/o my even having to ask. (I'd highly recommend Herrin-Gear simply due to the great loaner policy)

+1 on the advance notice that you want a loaner. One loaner was a 07 530, the other an 07 X3.

I think my dealer has about 5 loaners, usually when you schedule your appt they will ask if you want one. (if the service is less than an hour they will ask you to wait, but they offer a free shuttle to the local shopping centers and mall)

Last time I went in for service I got a choice of a 335 or X3. (Took the 335 )

So far dealer has always provided me a BMW loaner for repairs or service when requested. X3, 5er, 3er. Thanks Princeton BMW.

My local dealer has given me a loaner every time I have gone in for service. I did not buy my car from them and it does not seem to matter. My previous SA always gave me a nicer vehicle (X5 4.8, 535, 335 coupe) and told me to bring it back empty (he just disappeared one day). Now I usually get a base 328 4 door with a request to bring it back with the same gas as when I found it. Overall happy with this as I use my car for work and would not want to have to drive around with clients in a low end Chevy or Kia. On a side note, when I had my Infiniti they were always great about giving out loaners. If they ran out they would rent a Cadillac or other premium brand.

+2 if I make an appt 1-1.5 weeks out and tell them that I need a loaner then it's a done deal.

My dealer has 328s and X3s (I think about 15-20 total loaners- sometimes in the PM there are no places to park the loaner upon returning it.). In fact the guy that handles the loaner desk knows me now, so he treats me pretty good.

BTW loaners are for owners who bought from the dealership though.

Bought and serviced at Moritz (DFW area). For two oil changes I just waited. The one repair I needed was the AC. I give the dealership kudos for scrounging up a loaner (328 E90), even though I was a drop-in.

I am assuming you were at BMW of San Diego. We have always gotten loaner cars when we had our 2006 330i serviced. They ranged from Toyota Camry's to X3's to 328i's to 335i's. Our SA has been great to deal with. They also got my friend loaner cars, and she did not even buy her car from BMW of San Diego. We just ordered a new 2009 Crimson Red 335i this past weekend, due the first of April. Our second lease, and our experience was Excellent.

Baron BMW in Kansas City is always GREAT about giving loaners. I've bought 3 of my 4 bmw's from them and they always give me a loaner. When I bring the M3 in (which i didn't buy from them) my SA always tries to find me something "badass". The WORST I've gotten was a 535i

It took 2 days , but I got a E90 335i sport loaner while my 535i was in the shop for 2+weeks with fuel pump issues, and I was more than appreciative. I understand there is a limited amount of cars available that they can loan out , and you have to wait first come first serve. If people book appointments early and request loaners , the driver that comes in unannounced gets forced down the list. I do wish there were more loaners, but that is a lot of Funds to sink in to what is basically a rental car that gets ragged out....

In summary, no one should accept the story that you'll be getting BMW loaners when you are buying the car.

An urban myth, the truth is that it varies widely and depends on the dealer.

My dealer told me as long as you make an appointment, they will reserve me a loaner. And since my car is in the shop, I'm driving around the 09 328i sedan now.

My last 2 loaner cars were a 09 528xi and an 09 X3....I really wanted to have the 128i vert but it was gone by the time that my number was called.

I have always gotten a loaner at both dealerships that are in Denver.
