E82 / E88 1 Series (2008 - 2013)
BMWs throw back to the iconic 2002, with a renewed form and function. The smallest car in BMW's line up but still packs a punch. Available in coupe or convertible, powered by either an inline 6 in the 128 or the twin turbo rocket sled 135.

convertible top problem?

Has anyone experienced a problem with their convertible top? Heres my issue. Its an unbelievably nice day in Northern Virginia, so I figured go get a wash and take pics! Try to put the top down and I get a flashing red light and it wont go down. Theres hardly anything in the trunk (less than the times it has gone down) and I don't see any other visible problems? Any thoughts before I have to use a lunch hour to run to get service?

Try and re-set the headliner cover in the trunk. Sometimes if not in place correctly it can act up. Whats the Temp out?

Thanks, its about 55 out. It was the piece in the trunk that you put up if you are going to use more trunk space. You know, THAT would have been nice to put in the manual! Just glad I dont have to spend an hour at the service station for a 30 second fix.

On page 31 of the non iDrive manual, it says "Ensure that the cargo bay partition is folded down and engaged on both sides." I had the same problem yesterday (64o in MD), as I had forgotten to do that very thing, although sometimes you have to make certain the partition is securely seated. As my wife's 2000 Saab droptop operates the same way, I suspect many (if not most) modern convertibles are similar.
