Programming key fob

I have an '06 750Li with Comfort Access. I ordered a replacement key from the dealer, and it works to start/stop the car and the buttons on the fob function properly. My car has comfort access. Can I program the key to recognize this function? The dealer wants $175. It should not be that difficult....?

ok.... first of all... is it really an 02? if it is, it cant be a 750, but a 745... so either you were given wrong infromation, or you are saying 750 to make it sound like a newer car... my apologies if you take offense to this last statement....

if i remember correctly, comfort access required a special key, compared to a car with non comfort access... are you sure you ordered the right type?

key

Yes, I did order a comfort access key. The valet portion and the key has to match the VIN on the car and required proof of ownership and driver's license. The key will work all options, but according to the dealer, needs to be "programmed" to function with comfort access.

According to the dealer, only 2 comfort access keys can be programmed to the car, but you can have unlimited key fobs. Since this is a replacement, they have to "deactivate" the missing key and reprogram the new key.... so they said.

I had a similar experience but I know they can clear ALL the keys from the car without any of the key fobs.

Usually they will ask you to bring both working keys to them, then they'll reset the car and program the new keys

dealer programming

Yes, the dealer wants both keys, will clear the system.... Keep the one (original) comfort access key and if I want the second key to function with comfort access, they want $175 to program. I was able to find instructions to program the new key to work with the car, but it does not work with comfort access.

I would like the comfort access to work and avoid paying the dealer.

Unfortunately I dont think there's any other way to do that. Only the dealership has the necessary equipment that can be used to program the car.

You can try negotiating to get a lower rate, I'm sure if you work with your SA you can get it down to $100. Otherwise you can look for a BMW independent mechanic but I doubt any of them would have the coding equipment.

Talking programming key fob.

not sure where augora hills is located, but i just purchased a second fob key with remote access and my dealer here in PA said it will cost around $40 to program the second key for comfort access. They too said to bring in the key that is working and they need to re-program it. All for approx $40. I am going this coming weekend to have it all programmed. Wish I could do it myself too but haven't heard how to do that and must go to the dealer i'm told.

Call Brice Carson 805-267-8337 at Rusnak and tell him Mani (with the silver 750) referred you... he always hooks me up with that stuff.

If you have any other maintenance work that needs to be taken care of, it would make it even easier since they can usually schedule the programming in while the car is in for service.

Exclamation 2006 750i Used Remote Programming

2006 750i Used Remote Programming: Is it at all possible now in 2010 to reprogram a used 7 series remote purchased from ebay if it matches all the numbers, including the BMW number on the original working remote? Not just to open the doors, but also to start the car. I understand there are unique chip sets in the key remotes that must match the factory unique programmed slots in the car, and I was hoping matching the BMW number on the working remote would do the trick. I was also told that some new equipment has come out recently where locksmiths can program the BMW remotes, but I can't find one in the St Louis area. Any help to avoid the $250-$300 dealer costs would be appreciated. Thanks.

if it locks & unlocks your car , then it is already programmed .
you might have another problem , or your battery might be
bad .What exactly does it do when you try to start it ???

Programming key fob

We've been through this already. Spamming the board with 9 posts all asking the same thing isn't going to get you a different answer.

Everyone talking about "programming instructions" are talking about the remote portion - locking and unlocking, not starting. The only way to program a key to start the car is to remove and solder on a blank transponder chip and find someone with a programmer who can code the blank transponder to your car. Since you've already opened the key and screwed something up, I doubt that's an option for you. There's no telling what you did to break that key.

You need to take your title to the dealer and drop $300 on a new key.
