Where do I put Power Steering Fluid

Can anyone please tell me where to put power steering fluid in my 2000 323i? It was making noise this morning when i made turns and not turning as easily as it should. I ran in and picked up some steering fluid, looked in my owner's manual - which told me to contact BMW Dealer - - no diagram of where the reservoir is - nothing. I had several nice gentlemen come by and try to help me locate it - but after carefully going over everything I had already checked - no one knew where it went. Can someone please help?

Thanks!

FIRSTLY, DONT PUT POWER STEERING FLUID!! Its the canister that says ATF on it!! and put ATF. It'll cost you more than just the fluid if you put the wrong stuff in there.

It's the reservoir with the star shaped cap right in front of the engine that says ATF only...and like it says, use ATF, not power steering fluid.

I recommend looking at my power steering fluid "flush" DIY which can be found in the E46 Wiki:

As you look at the engine the reservoir is located to the right, just left of the airbox. It has a top that can be screwed off by hand.

Yes. Get it at autozone. The BMW dealer will sell you the same ATF that autozone has. I forgot the name of the ATF, but it should meet Dexron III standards.

I think the name is Castrol Dex/Merc.

not to change the subject, but i doubt adding more PS fluid is going to solve the problem. follow krisL's guide and replace your PS entirely. if the problem arises, check to see if there are air bubbles in the fluid reservoir, if so, air is getting into the system somwhere and will make the steering whine.
