Talking Chrome headlights.

OK, so I saw this bimmer 5 with chrome trimming around the headlights.

I have only seen this once, but it was F**king cool.

Do you have any idea how I would do this, with my new DDM headlights, on my E36 sedan??

They weren't just eye lids, they were chrome trim all the way around the headlights.

Not going to flame as each to their own and thats what makes owning a car appealing- If we all had the same taste then we wouldnt bother modding!!
But chrome trim
Sorry - it looks aweful on the new Saab'a its going to look god awful on a bimmer.. But if all else fails iv seen it on ebay! If you do go ahead post the pics it would still be interesting to see

I think the correct word here is "appalling". But that's just me.

A word on our sponsors: Iridium sparks thanks to NGK. Wheels will shortly be dressed once again by Yokohama C-Drive. Road is lit by Eagle-Eye 6000K HID, supplemented by 7000K CCFL Angel eyes. HB/Fog have selected to go with Philips 4000K BlueVision. Engine parts choose to slip with Castrol's 20-50 GTX2 dinosaur slime, renewed every 10,000km.

Ebay has some crappy one piece e36 headlights that are chrome-y looking, personally I think it would be the ugliest thing ever you could do to a car.

Talking

I don't think you know what I mean.

It's really hard to explain, I have not seen anything on the market like what I want, so I'll assume it's not out there.

Thanx for your input, even though you didn't get what I meant.

I don't know what else he could be talking about. The only other thing is the entirely chrome backed headlights, which are even worse.

Jack, go to the beach and think about it a bit. You need to get your head cleared dude.

My goodness. Wings on wings!

I assumed chrome rings would be rings. Like angel eyes, only chrome and not luminous.

Oh... my...
All that work.
All that money.
Just to make a bmw look so... bad.

Correct me if i am wrong, but the unwritten rule with a bmw is:
Subtle, classy, and functional, or gtfo.
And i could be wrong. It may be written somewhere. I am still a newb.
The only place for chrome is on the wheels imo. And even then you can overdo it if you aren't careful.

Abso-f*cking-lutely.

Subtle is the key. My general rule is don't let ANYTHING steal the show from the overall car. If you can look at a car and one particular thing just jumps out at you more than the rest of the car, you failed. I like a car to look subtle and nice, yet better than everything else. It has to have that je ne se quoi that you just can't put your finger on why it's so hot.

Chrome on an E36 belongs around the kidneys and the badges. Nowhere else. Wheels should be silver, hypersilver, polished metal, hyperblack (sometimes), and black (very rare). IMO, chrome wheels do not belong on an E36 under ANY circumstances.

The whole car should just flow. Nothing in particular standing out. That's how to make a BMW look tasteful and sleek and sexy. Now if only I could do something about the 30 lbs of chrome around every window on the Jag.......

^+1 to both of you. I totally agree with the "to each his own" statement to an extent, but when people start ricing out a perfectly attractive BMW you really just want to ask that person "Has anybody else other than yourself said this actually looks good?!"

My 318iS is bone stock (with the exception of slightly upgraded front suspension/K&N Filter), nothing special about it other than me being absolutely anal about waxing/washing/polishing, and I'm amazed by how many compliments I receive on a car that's now going on 15 years old.

I think it really says a lot about BMW's, and especially E36's in general. So basically, why fix what isn't broken? Amazed these cars hold their style so well, even Mercedes from the same year(s) look outdated and boring nowadays. E36's are still headturners. So don't put f***ing chrome and preparation-h tail lights on a perfectly beautiful car!
