Problems, problems, always problems ...
I am hoping someone may be able to help. Since buying my E39, I have had problem
after problem, from worn front hubs causing severe shudder on braking to worn seal letting water in on the rear door! I now appear to have the PDC failed, although I have located the failed sensor, just have 2 things that you may be able to advise me on. 1) Windscreen washer - If I pull the windscreen washer stalk back it will activate the pump and spray water without any problem. If I push the button on the stalk where it used to then spray for a programmed time mixing with the concentrate, nothing happens at all. I have checked the cabling and cannot see any problems. Is there a specific fuse and/or relay I should check or anything else before assuming the button has failed? 2) Running the diagnostic software showed an instrument cluster fault and when interrogating the specific module showed : Instrument number combination Part number 6914892 Hardware Nr . 19 Software Nr. 15 Diagnose index 9 Modification Index 40 Bus index 12 Code index 12 Production Date 23/3 Kombi_fe.dxt Then a message BF about internal damage / error Any advice appreciated... Chris. |

Problem after problem? Not too serious though, compared to some.
1) Is there screenwash in the seperate concentrate washer bottle? The small one? 2) An instrument cluster error is normal for some softwares to flag. Doesn't mean anything.

I'd rather watch Rugby any day to Soccer & can't stand Ali G :-)
1) Yes, both the small concentrate bottle is full and the water bottle is full too. 2) I shall ignore the flag on the instrument cluster Regards, CHris. |

qq7 when you push the washer button can you hear the pump? Most of the fuses are in the glove box and there should be a card in there with a key to the layout.

nope, when I push the button I cannot hear anything, no indication of the pump and the wipers don't start. I will have a look to check the fuses.

Ok I'm not sure what you are saying....(are you sure you don't have a jag/mg?)...but if you are talking about the spray for the lights which are mounted in the bumper, then check if your fluid is full. I have 2 tanks, and when the "deep clean" which comes on every 5 pumps of the stalk or so was empty which flagged this error msg.

I think I can tell the difference between a BMW and a jag/mg ;-)
On the 530d M Sport that I have, it has 2 fluid bottles, 1 main bottle for the water and 1 smaller bottle for the concentrate. When you pull the stalk towards you it activates the pump for the water bottle and sprays the screen correctly but doesn't mix in any concentrate. What used to happen was when pressing the end of the stalk it would activate a programmed wash sequence where it would spray the screen mixing in the concentrate for a set number of wipes. After every 5th push of the button, it would also spray the front lights. Now I can push the end of the stalk as many times as I want and nothing happens at all, no spray, no sound of any pumps activating. Chris. |

My US 525i has the intensive mode by pressing the button on the end of stalk. It pulses the sprays for both windshield and lights.
Pulling back on the stalk will clean the window and every 5th time will clean the lights.

That behaviour is the same as my 530d, but now pushing the stalk button does nothing and that's the fault I am trying to track down.
Looks like fuses are ok and both fluid bottles are full. |
