Timing belt change/ adjust valves/ maintenance - 1986 325e

Hey everyone! So I got a 1986 325e just recently and I'm trying to get her maintenance done because the prior owner didn't have any records. Aside from telling me he changed the oil, he didn't do anything to the vehicle. A couple of things need attention, I'd say immediately:

1) replace timing belt - simply because I don't want to leave it to chance and have it snap on me; I heard the belt is cheap but how hard is it to maneuver around the engine? The belt actually looks decent, but I am paranoid.

2) the valves need adjustment - at least, this is what the seller told me, because it's making a ticking noise when the engine is idling. He said it's an easy job but I don't think I'd feel comfortable messing around with valves.

Can anyone share their experiences or a detailed DIY giude on these? Or hey, a trust-worthy mechanic in Chicago wouldn't be so bad either. Last but not least, is there any other things I should take care of as far as regular maintenance goes?

Thanks for the feedback!
