The "I'm looking/shopping for a 6 series" and have some questions thread....

I am somewhat new to BMW community since I haven't owned one in the past. But I have friends who owned few M5s (2001 and 2007/2008), and one with 335i. They all loved the cars. But the 2001 M5 was at the dealer many times for various electrical problems, and the 335 will be going back to the dealer for a second set of door handles. Luckily all these cars were under warranty.

I am starting to look into car possibilities once I'm done with school. 650i is leading the pack. But I have noticed a trend on Autotrader...most of these cars are sold with 500-1000 miles remaining on the warranty. Is this something to be concerned about or not? How reliable are these cars once they are up to 40K miles or more? Would it make more sense to look for one with extended warranty?

I currently have a 2006 GTI and that thing will definitely be sold before my warranty is up. Not because it has many problems right now, but there are few parts on it that are equivalent to a ticking bomb without a timer on it...if it goes, then not only do I loose $5k in value once its out of warranty, but another 3-5K in repairs. I don't want the same thing to happen to a BMW because those repairs would probably be twice as much.

They do share the same chassis. The M5 has the same motor. So the cold hard line answer is yes. But in reality, the 650i in how it drives, how it looks, how you feel driving it....is in a class all its own.

I have a "ragtop". It is actually a hybrid metal/cloth thing that is as quiet as a hardtop when it is up and folds away so cleanly. The view from the back seat is amazing.

I have had the privilege of driving some very nice cars. This one, there is just something about it. It corners with no body roll, its quiet, its powerful. The attention to detail, the smoothness of the ride, man I could go on forever.

I highly recommend a convert 6 speed get as many toys as you can. silly but fun. live a little.

I'm tired of making the same statement over and over again: Yes, the 5er & 6er share the same parts but that doesn't make the 6 a 5er coupe. Doesn't matter if they have similar parts or not, they are still 2 different cars. That's why BMW markets the 2 as different cars. The 6 & 5 are like Irish twins, sometimes they're the same but in the end they aren't twins at all.

how reliable are the 6 series(2004-present) and compare to the 5 series?

I have friends that own these amazing cars and I don't hear them complain besides the stupid i-Drive.
I would like to hear all of your thoughts.

Why does just about every used / pre-owned 6 have Chateau Red interior...was it seriously that popular of an interior color?

What's the going rate for OEM M6 Wheels w/wo tires preferably. Thanks in advance.

I am looking to get an 06 or 07 650i coupe. Is there a major difference between the 2 years?

Hey everyone, I'm new to the forum. I have gone thru a ton of posts and learned as much as I could on the 6er. I'm in the market for an 05 or 06 coupe or vert, depending on the price I can get. I test drove an 06 w/ 28k miles on it w/ a price of $39k, but this was a month ago and I had really just started doing my research. I have now found an 06 vert w/ 50k miles for $42k. It is a CPO, 1 owner lease and has a ton of options. Perf/Sport pkd, heads up, night vision, comfort, sound, cold weather. My question is, it that a good price? and do I really need all these options? How often do people really use the night vision? Also how important is the CPO, I can prob find some less expensive coupes w/ out the CPO. I haven't called my insurance yet, but does anyone know if verts are more expensive than a coupe? Anything else I should ask the dealer? Thanks for any help! This forum has been a great help in my research!!

I have an '04 645. The retrofit is a simple process. Search the forum; it's been covered several times, but essentially involves replacing the 6-CD changer in the glove box (you could do this yourself) with an ipod kit and then reprogramming from the dealership.

I love my 6 Convert. I had a 330ci convertible and hated it. Only did 2000 miles in it and it sat in the garage. My husband brought a 650 coupe and when I drove it fell in love, until the dealership called me and said they had a 645 convert come in and did I want to see it....She drives totally different to my husbands with the roof up shes a lady with the roof down shes a bitch. Love driving this car so much and she handles the road and corners like a dream.

I used to work for BMW in the UK back in the late 80s when I was 18 and didnt appreciate the brand or the car and vowed I would never want one....How wrong was I

I love the 650i and the power and looks of the M6 even more! At first I thought that I wanted an M3 but after driving the 650i and M6 today, the six won me over the M3. It is nicer inside and smoother engine.
Now the M6 is a race car in its own league with that ferocious V10 engine!

i just bought a 08 650i for my dad.........and hes telling me that he has a moonroof and the button for opening and closing it but it stays closed all the time. The dealer told him the previous owner had it specially ordered where it wont open and close. Is this possible??

I am new here :-)

I went to the BMW dealer on saturday determined to order a 335i coupe and ran into a 2005 645Ci (CPO). I really was stunned by the car and am now thinking about buying it this week. I desperately need some advice as I have not researched this model thoroughly. So I am not sure if I am missing anything.
Some facts:

The car is priced at $37000, has 22000 miles on it (two owners). The Carfax report that the dealer showed me shows no problems, the CPO checklist shows no issues whatsoever.

The car is black with chateau red interior, Nav, HUD, active steering, sports package and some other goodies (I can't remember).

My main concern is that I live in Minneapolis so there is some snow here (not as much as in the norttheast though), so RWD car was something I had never considered before. But I am thinking about getting some good snow tires (any recommendation?) On the bright side, it is pretty flat here so no hills to climb. Does this make sense?

How does the deal sound to you? The price seems very attractive to me but this also makes me concerned about whether there is some hidden problem with the car. I never bought a CPO before so I am not sure how reliable it is. Although I do have an X3 and have been very happy with BMW service in general (but go to an other dealer for service).

I would think so if they did nothing more than disconnect the switch from the moonroof. I would think you can simply pop the small panel the moonroof switch is in and check. (I remember it being it pretty easy when I put in a homelink years ago in a previous coupe.)

Does it pop up? I thought the coupe moonroof only raised up and does not open.

i just got this 65 cic with smg and its fun a car, smg is cool, the last time i drove a manual was when i was a teen and its a great feeling.

Okay, I am sold on a 6er, never been a fan of convertibles, but must say the 6 vert looks awesome even with the top up. I don't have either right now, and fixed to this economy so at least another 6 - 9 months before I can realistically pull the trigger. And then it will definitely NOT be new. I'm seeing quite a few under 30K these days, (04's & 05s) 45K to 75K miles. Planning to keep my existing car for daily use, etc. 6er will be my toy. What I don't know (Never owned a BMW) what's it going to cost to maintain ... especially with that age, I'm guessing the excellent warranty is probably gone by then. So what mechanical issues should I look for. I already know it cost a grand to replace tires, but what other things go bad.

Sorry for being a nub and all but I have one more question. So I took a better look at my fathers 650i(suppose to be sports package), and he has Chrome window trim!! I tried searching on the forums to see if that is even possible and found out it's not. It was odd to me because he has the Bucket seats and the 10 spoke 19inch rims! Thanks in advance~! :]
