Cool

This is a VERY common problem. Your window regulator will need to be replaced.
My advice: Once you are out of warranty, use your windows only if absolutely necessary.

+1, for some reason BMW uses lousy window regulator suppliers. I have heard that M-B also has the problem. Perhaps, with climate control the use of windows is getting obsolete LOL!

Did you have window tint removed recently? I did on mine and I could not clean the adhesive left behind by the film in the window channel. The window would get stuck and make a loud pop as it got loose from the adhesive everytime I rolled the window up or down. Check for obstructions in the window channel.

Window regulator failures.

Hi for what its worth, I have never had a regulator or motor failure on my X5 2005 or any of the Rental cars I service. I spray all the window channels with silicone spray with windows down and then run them up and down and then on the glass in the channels you will see straight away how much faster they travel. It does not attract dirt and grime either.

On my BMW X5 2006, driver side window won't go up until I use a nose pliers to pull it up and simultaneously use up knob, it works fine opening but once it opens all the way it wont close until I use a plier to pull it up a little.

The regulator failure causing this situation is the clip holding the cable to the window. There are two clips. they are connected. A plastic one which frequently breaks. cost about 2 dollars on ebay. and the larger metal and plastic clip. This one has a groove that the cable slides into.. The cable has a holding device( remind me of a weight on a fishing line). the "weight" fits into a pocket which gives the window bracket something to hold onto as the cable moves up and down the channel. If the pocket becomes broken or even too large and the cable has too much play, then the window can move front to back a fraction of a inch as your roll it up and down. This movement can cause the window to get stuck in the down position. Dealer wants to sell new regulator for 300 dollars. found the clip on ebay for 11.00.
