Not sure what are you're talking about. You mean the control on the stalk don't work, e.g., mileage, fuel left, etc.?

Are you talking about the navigation screen?

My car doesn't have a navi system but I would try all kinds of things before assuming it's just broken. Fuses, connections, diagnostic...

Press the button next to the monitor that opens it while helping it open with your other hand. I heard the mechanism that opens and shuts the monitor needs to be re-lubed when the monitor starts having problems opening.

Sorry if this sounds like a silly question, but how are you trying to turn the monitor on? You said it doesn't come on when the car turns on, but if it has been switched off (ie you turned off the radio/cd/aux while driving) it will not come back on until you turn the radio/cd etc on again.
Just trying to cover the obvious....
Although, from memory it should always pop up when you use the button on the dash next to the screen (as long as the ignition is on) so my comment above may not be much help.
