Come on, everyone admit the best change is the "Soft-Close upper rear hatch."

I hate slamming our tailgate.

Yeah, even if you close it firmly and it seems to latch properly, your OBC will tell you "TRUNKLID IS OPEN". Annoying.

Why thank you Rooster!

I've been trying my best to keep the BMW community informed
to the best of my ability since 1998...

Every once in a while, I stick my ( ) out and this happens.

Btw, I just discovered a significant difference for MY 2004 X5 3.0's that
was not identified earlier:

Sport seats (option code 481) are no longer an option, and therefore
I am concluding that they will be standard with the Sporty Package.

Does the X5 3.0 have a 6-speed or 5-speed auto tranny?

I don't know where they are located, I am just going by what BMW said in the dealer bulletin.

Well as Mr Shafer posted...there's a 6-speed manual. So we know that is for sure.

As for an optional transmission, my personal prediction is that we will either get the 5-Speed Steptronic, or perhaps the newer 6-Speed Steptronic. Only time will tell!

Why oh why did I read this thread... it just figures I'm happy with what we have and the miles on it, but the funny thing is I was just saying to my wife a little earlier, this car needs another gear. Maybe it's me but I think 70mph on the highway has the rpms a little too high for what I'm used to. Then again, it's been a while since I've driven an 8 cyl.

No wait, gears turning... I know.. sell what we just bought and buy an '04

Hey bud,

Don't sweat it. Yeah, it'd be nice to have a sixth overdriven gear, but then your X would have to look like @ss. I hate the new look.

damn, take it easy. how can you say that you hate the facelift when it doesnt even look all that different. Personally i like the pre-facelift X and love the looks of the 04 X5. much more aggressive.
similar reaction occured when the 3 series facelift took place.

Are you kidding? The pre-facelift X5s has PROBLEMS.

It didn't even have xenon high beams. And because of the stupid design of having the inner lights bigger, aftermarket angel eyes couldn't be properly installed like in the E46.

Speaking of the E46, pre-2002 had AWFUL front headlights and rear lights. It was just old! I can't say I'm fond of the 2004 coupe's weird headlights, but the 2002+ headlights on the sedans are done well.

There is always room for improvement in every product. However, I daresay that in the X5's case..."out with the old!"

Dude,

This is the internet. Don't take it too seriously.

I hate the facelift. Good.
