License Plate Lights Question...

Hey guys, sorry if this was answered somewhere else but i couldnt find it / wasnt searching the correct terms for an 07 335i.

The current lights that project onto my plate are the stock light bulbs almost yellow looking, i would like to replace them with LED's. I was curious who has it done / how hard is it / and where to get the bulbs. I messaged a few places selling them and advised not to do it saying it trips the warning lights on the dash saying the bulbs are out? Im sure thers a way to do it / correct bulbs. Thanks guys

It is hit or miss with the errors. I was told errors go away after a short while, yet that little orange triangle remained on the dash, illuminated, with two different sets of LED bulbs I had in my E90. So what I did was went to advance/autozone/pep boys and bought their HyperWhite Bulbs, they were $3.23 with tax. They are blue glass, but shine white similar to fake HID Style headlight bulbs. Don't get blue ones, get the Hyperwhite ones. They actually look whiter than the LED bulbs I have in my Accord License plate lamps. I am Happy and they cost about 1/10th less than a set of LEDs which run about $30 shipped, and might throw an error.

Thank you for the response. So these HyperWhite bulbs shouldnt trip the error? Any idea the bulb size or they will be able to look up the CORRECT bulb at autozone you think? Also, is it a hassle to replace them? Thanks again .

Hi there,

We offer our V2 LED License Plate Lights which are a direct replacement for the factory non-LED bulbs. Just pop open the housing and swap out the bulbs, that's all you need.

Exactly right, just take out the housing, pull out the bulb, put in the new one. Just a word of advice, the LED bulbs only work in one direction so if you install them and they do not light up. Take them out and flip them around 180 degrees.

So you say you just remove the housing and snap right in. I have 0% experience with BMW's i just purchased my 07 a month or so ago. do you have any instructions / can you post a quick overview. I'm assuming you access the bulbs from inside the trunk? Sorry for such a newb question but dont want to hurt my new baby

PS.
Just placed the order either way

Got the lights this morning and just put them in. Very Simple just need a flat head screw driver. The bulbs are directional so had to flop one around.

Took pic w/ Bberry so its crappy. But will take a pic of the plate tonight . Thanks

I purchased these:
http://www.jlevistreetwerks.com/p681...duct_info.html

Got them in like 2 days too .

Here are some pics. First 3 were taken while it was light out. Last 3 i just took its 8:30 pm so almost completely dark.

I think they look great and 100x better then the stock yellow little bulbs .

No Lights on:

Lights on during late afternoon still bright out:

It should say push the housings to the RIGHT not the left Sry

Night pics:

Took about 3 minutes total to do both bulbs. Very easy .

Why does anyone want more illumination out of their licplate light bulb?

What I don't get is why you guys give a license plate light any respect at all? Why do you want your tags to be EASIER to be seen by the police?

BTW, I learned over in the E39 license plate light thread that the direction you push can be to the right or left (depending on the vehicle) but one easy way to tell is to look at the space to the left and right.

You push (contrary to what you'd think) from the area of high space to the area of low space with your flathead screwdriver (see picture for clarification).

for some, its just personal preference, we offer the brightest license plate solution right now at 18-LED per side

With the newer BMW's there are LED's that light up under each of the handles to the ground, and HID's in the headlights. I personally hated the way the normal bulbs lit up the plate yellowish when there are all LED's and HID colered white everywhere. The 08's or 08's have the LED tail light bulbs standard i think since ive seen several with it.

Ah. OK. Now I understand. The point isn't to make the license tag readable; the point is asthetics, particularly given the imbalance of yellow and white lights clashing. That's a different story.

BTW, can others prove my hypothesis that you can tell which direction to push the assembly by the width of the space of indentation below it?

Guess what? My problem wasn't (isn't) the light bulb after all!

I tried the two new Sylvania 6418 13.5volt 5Watt bulbs.
And, I even tried the working bulb in the other licplate light.

Any suggestions as to what could be wrong?
(I wiggled everything and it sure looks clean of crud.)

Mine are white... Does that mean that on the 09s they put in whiter bulbs?
