Unhappy 2000 bmw 528i automatic transmission fill location

Urgent, can someone tell me where the location of the ATF fill? I changed the filter and when I tried to fill the fluid into the reservoir it topped quickly after not even 1 quart. Thanks in advance.

If it is like my 540, you don't have a fill tube. You have a plug just above the pan that you remove and add fluid until the fluid starts to run out the hole and then you are full. Remember that our cars have "lifetime" trans fluid-yeah, right.... Are you saying that after you dropped the pan and changed the filter and put the pan back on, it would only take a quart? Should take 4-5 with the torque convertor still being full.

there is no atf resevior, i hope you just didn't put atf into the oil pan. if you pulled out a red handled dip stick that's the oil dipstick. your suppose to fill at the tranny pan. theres a bolt on the drivers side towards the top of the tranny pan. if you put atf in the oil pan your gonna need to change the oil.

Sounds to me like you are talking about the power steering reservoir that has ATF on the cap and sits right next to the oil filter housing. Not enough details though.

Oops you beat me to the post. Yup, thats your PS reservoir. So where is this ATF filter you changed out?

Anyways, your PS reservoir takes Dexron III fluid.

And although this is from the other forum, a great resource nonetheless.

That would be ATF Bob. The power steering system takes Automatic Transmission Fluid, Dex III.
