Temp. sensor

Anybody know the thread size of the Z3 oil press.(idiot light) sending unit? I need some kind of "T" or "Y" fitting for my oil temp. gauge. Looking for ideas or part. Thanks,

I got your E-mail (& PM), I just haven't been able to get back around to verifying the thread sizes (been a little busy trying to get two cars back on the road, police, insurance, neighbors, etc.).

When Maddox asked me about doing them, I ran off three adapter blocks. I sent one to Danno to "test" but since his engine is out...

I need to thread one of the other blocks for you and order a Banjo bolt (the block will need to be machined for the Banjo bolt once it arrives).

Thirty year high school reunion this weekend so I won't be home until sometime Sunday.

Yes, that sounds right.
The VDO pressure transducer that Jon sent me was M10 - 1.0 so I was hesitant to say.

Correct. VDO sender is M10x1. BMW uses M12x1.5, so you need an adapter.

Yes. That one is tapered.

Here is the preliminary design.
I have since come up with a much more streamlined version to accomplish the same function, but you'll get the idea.

Randy, that looks good to me. There is not much room there. My sensor would work for the VDO in there but I do not have a large oil press. transducer there. I believe it is for the idiot light the Z has. Its smaller in size than the transducer. I was "assuming" it just screwed in, without an adapator but I really did not look that good. Clue me in. Would I need a M12x1.5 (male) banjo with a M12x1.5(female) for idiot light, and a M10x1.0(female) for the VDO sender?

As set up for an M-54/S-52:
The intent was to remove an existing temperature sensor and replace it with this 3-port adapter block (one port for the existing temp sensor and an additional port for the newly added pressure sensor). The adapter would be attached by means of the Banjo Bolt.

You would need to verify the port size required for the oil temperature sending unit you wish to install. Looking at the bright side, it is not likely to be smaller than the hole I have pre-drilled in one of the blocks I already have roughly 80% finished...

Or, we start all over

Do some research and let me know.

Randy, the oil temp.sender is a VDO M12 x 1.5. Is that doable?

So to summarize, you need an adpater that mounts (via M-12 x 1.5 Banjo Bolt) where your existing idiot light sensor is and has a port for that sensor and another port for your VDO M-12 x 1.5 temperature sensor. Both threaded ports will be M-12 x 1.5.

Doable.
