E39 (1997 - 2003)
The BMW 5-Series (E39 chassis) was introduced in the United States as a 1997 model year car and lasted until the 2004 when the E60 chassis was released. The United States saw several variations including the 525i, 528i, 530i and 540i. -- View the E39 Wiki

E39 Speedometer upgrade

Whats up guys.. so i have a 1997 528i and im wondering if its possible to upgrade the speedo to the m5 one from 2000 and up? I don't like my plain one.

Hi,

Yes it's possible. to get all the lights to work properly and correctly, it'll be a major job and requires a LOT of specialist knowledge and work. translate that into 'very expensive' !

Look at the Schmiedmann website for other speedometer faces that you can swap in and come in different colours. You could also carefully open your current speedo up and paint the needles red.

+1 Very hard to do an OEM quality retrofit.

I wish schmiedmann made M5 replica faces, their quality is so good.

The closest M5 replica facia I've seen was from this place (No idea on who/how they work) http://www.speedofixer.co.uk/gallery_e39.html

If it wasn't for that dumb "POWER" label I would have jumped on it.
