I am dumb - can you help me out more ?

I went to the dealer today, and the jerk pissed me off to no end.

He would not WRITE DOWN the numbers.

He just kept saying that I was asking for a 49,000 truck (all I wanted was a 3.0 with navigaiton)

Basically we argued with each other, because I inststed that an X5 3.0 is NOT $49,000 . When I asked , he told me the money facor. was 1. (whatever that means) and he said the residual % on a 3 year lease for 36,000 miles was 58 % (he showed me some BMW financial list)

Is he lying ? Am I being too rude ?

Whats the proper way for me to negotiate ? (I know that my first step should be more prepared and understand this better)

your help is appreciated -

You aren't dumb, leasing is designed to appear difficult.

You need to read here:
http://www.edmunds.com/advice/leasin...5/article.html

You need to be able to calculate your own lease payment to be able to effectively negotiate. It's not hard once you realize you only need a few ingredients:
1. The Cap Cost (whatever you negotiate the price down to)
2. The Residual (a percentage)
3. The MSRP
4. The Money Factor (usually a decimal)
5. The term

Then you plug the numbers into the formula on that website, and presto, the lease payment emerges.

Also, while looking at bmw's website, it appears you have to have the premium package ($3900) to have the nav ($1800), so figure that into your calculations.
