does the car slam on it's brakes if someone suddenly cuts in front of you with the active cruise on?

Nope. It seems that is assesses the speed of the offender. If it is pulling away the car stays on course, if not, it brakes gently. If car is too close, you will also get a red icon and a beep to alert you. You can then slam the brakes or perform an avoidance maneuver. So far, I have never seen the car hard-braking (ABS style) on its own.

no offense but it's a crazy high price for this option, plus i have a manual so it would be a PITA. my CA even considers it worthless unless you are in the upper end 5 and 7 series with AT.

This implementation of a cruise control system is spot on. The only niggle I have is the resume switch effort could be a little lower...picky I am!

Agree it is spot on. ACC maybe a nice feature, but as far as I'm concerned it's totally unnecessary. For me, it's as good as the pedal so I use everywhere, including the city. My only niggle is that I don't like it to brake (I leave enough cushion and can manuever to avoid braking) so I turn it off going down a hill and then resume accordingly. I understand why they incorporate this, but regardless, I would like to have this part disabled (or be able to disable it).

Note to the folks complaining there is no "tail gating" setting. There is a good reason for that.

None taken, but to each his own. For me it is a must have. I would like to to be less expensive, but it is still worth every penny.
When you drive 90+miles on the highway every day, it is really relaxing to have the car adjust speed for you. I can make (hands free) calls without running the risk of being surprised by a slow vehicle, etc. Especially at night in sparse traffic.
Perhaps I should have a 5 or a 7, but they are a little too big when going to the city (+ $$$). Agreed that it makes little sense with a manual...

It's good that the cruise control operation is so straightforward. It's impossible to actually see the cruise control lever while driving. I suppose it's better to be easy to activate and simple to use than to be visible. That way it's never necessary to take one's eyes off the road to make adjustments.

I used it for the first time this weekend (no not adaptive for me) but it's easy to use. Raising/lowering the speed is also very convenient - especially with the digital display of the speed so I can really "nickle-and-dime it"
