Bimmerfest 2009 tango-with-law-enforcement thread--who got yanked?

I got pulled over by local police when me and my buddies went to Carl's Jr. Warning for tints. The lady officer was nice and said she was actually looking for an m3 convertible to buy.

She knew all about Bimmerfest.

Who else got pulled over? And what for??

cop came after me i believe and then stopped right behind my friends esotril blue e46 m3 :x

did she just warn you? or did you get a fix it ticket?


if you get a fix it ticket in another county do you have to drive back to that county to show them that you got it fixed?

i got pulled over by chp for tint, tinted taillights, no front plate....

what about your rear plates?

I just got a warning. The cop says she did so because she knows I live far away. She said I'd have to come back.

The key is to just be honest and respectful. i did everything i was asked to and did not put up any resistance whatsoever.

Driving a Jag among a bunch of Bimmers significantly reduces my chances of getting pulled over, so thanks everyone!

i got pulled over for having tinted windows and tinted tails...got a fix it ticket...does anyone have a picture of me? i have a black coupe with black csls and white time attacks...they pulled me over during the caravan on the 101...a few people took pics

I lead the MFEST caravan from LA and made sure to drive the speed limit when we got to Oxnard. We got passed by so many other non BMW cars just flying but never saw anyone of the 'general public' pulled over. I understand the CHP wanted us to know they were there, but the non-bmw no front plate and tint cars, got a nice free pass.

In our group two people got pulled over twice. One guy got pulled over got a tint warning, then about a minute later same guy got pulled over again and got a tint ticket Another guy got pulled over three different times and got pissed and turned around and went home.

Sorry for all of those that got tickets. That sucks. Especially for stuff like tint and front plates, how petty (even though it is the law, and I personally run without a front plate, too).

I actually had an interesting ride into the show from our hotel in Carpinteria. As We pulled onto hwy 101 we were directly behind a CHP patrol car and promptly picked up another patrol car right behind us. Not that I planned to go fast in the bumper to bumper traffic, but being surrounded did make me a little nervous. Then came what I feared would be the nail in the coffin, a CHP motorcycle pulls in right behind me...

I joked with my son that we had an official police escort, and he recommended that I not do anything stupid. (Sound advise from a 13 year old.) Next the Officer on the bike pulls up right next to me, we were rolling along at 5 or 10 mph, and the top was down so I jokingly exclaimed how great it was to have my own police escort. Luckily, he had a great personality. He asked me if we were going to the "party" and I said "yep, we wouldn't miss it for the world". He commented on how lucky we were to have such a beautiful day for the event. We BS'd as we inched along in the stop and go traffic, and before he drove off he commented on how nice the Z4 was and told us to have a great day!

I think that was a great experience for my son. He got to see first hand that the Officers are real people, and even though are are authority figures, that they can be talked to, can laugh and joke, and can appreciate a bunch of gear-heads getting together for a car show.

A CHP passed me in the left lane while we were crusing up there (I was in the middle lane). Once he got past me and saw I had no front plate, he slowed and moved behind me, turned on the lights to pull me over.

Cited me for no front plate and for speeding at 74 - the Radar/Lidar box is not checked on the ticket and he wasn't even going to pull me until he saw I had no front plate - so he basically pulled the 74 number out the air.

I have never fought a ticket before, but I may fight this one. I bascially got a ticket because of WHAT I was driving and not HOW I was driving.

Not many tangles, Santa Barbara PD actually came out to support us when the manager at Sand Piper wasn't cooperating. Kudos to them for taking the time!

I was rolling along at the speed limit just before SB.....and got forced over by a bull too. I gave him no hassle with the stop and he asked me ...or more like told me that I wasn't from here ,was I ?
He said he could tell because I was being polite and forthcoming with my insurance and I.D.

We joked about a few things....and he said "remove that rear tint on the tail lights and get a front tag mounted....have a nice day. No ticket.

It did cost me 6 minutes of frustration trying to catch back up to my caravan group though....
