Age-old 325i tail light problem questions.

I have read zillions of threads on the 325 tail light problem and am about to try fixing mine. It seems that a common problem has been that the brown-wire male and female connection positions have burned and all of the driver's side tail lights do not work.

So, this morning I took the car to the dealer. They called back about an hour later and told me the estimate would be $330.00. I told them to forget it and went to get my car and some parts from them. The bulb carrier was $58.32, not bad, and the 8-pin connector was $5.50.

Now, I have a couple of questions about this repair that I am going to do myself, I hope. Do I have to do all of the grounding, etc. as detailed in BMW Service Information Bulletin 63 03 06, or can I just wire it up as it was when delivered as new? Apparently when it was new, the bulb carrier was not grounded and this service bulletin tells how to do this, but it takes a lot of parts, not expensive, and seems to be 'not simple'.

Also, I read one Bimmerfest thread, which I cannot find now, which had a picture of what appeared to be a much simpler grounding. Anybody know which thread it was ??
