It's Official: 5er GT
http://www.bmwblog.com/2009/05/21/of...w-5-series-gt/
It is officially here. I admit that this vehicle intrigues me greatly. I understand the look is quite eccentric to many. It kind of reminds of me Merc R Class. A half baked minivan and touring. Some people like them, some people hate them. Regardless of the exterior, I think the interior is very well built. The lay-out of the dash and console, they are all improved and visually pleasing. Alright, enough of the salesman talk. Enjoy.

Car Magazine of UK says it arrives in showroom around October. I just sent an email to my salesguy to check on the stateside.
On another note, I can also see that people in urban city actually like the guy. A lot of the owners with families, like the functions of minivan or SUV but don't like to own either. This type of car is perfect for them to drive around the city and back and forth the suburbs. That's why there are so many R class in NYC.

I like it
Lay-out sort of reminds me of the old SAAB 900/9-3 |

Hopefully they put the night vision where it belongs. Not on the iDrive screen but in the driver's line of sight.

Dude this is just like a new 7-series, just not as wide. So wherever it is on the 7er is where it is here.

Man, it's better than I expected!! I figured it would look pretty good even though it's not really the kind of car I would buy for myself, but this thing is truly beautiful! BMW has hit this out of the ballpark! The X6 has really been a hit and I predict this GT 5er will do even better. Families are going to love it.

It intrigued me initially, but I now have little interest in it because (a) it doesn't seem to be coming with the diesel engine from the 335d and, more damning, (b) it can only fit FOUR people. What's the point of the bigger car if you can't fit at least five in it in a pinch?

It's interesting that Car and Driver describes this vehicle to allure Lexus buyers. I think the comfort and luxury aspects will do the job. Hopefully the suspension won't be pillow soft - well, maybe the Comfort setting will be.
It's a sign of times that more and more BMWs are offered in automatics only.

Looks ok, if only it had the ///M V10... I love the rectangular exhaust tips! Reminds me of the AC Schnitzer kit for the 6.

Firstly, puke
Secondly, whatever A BMW hatchback to attract people who cant make up there mind between and X5 or an X6, may, just may, consider this another option. I hope its a flop. Maybe I am wrong. I cant see a nice angle on it, got that flatnose from a 1 series too, yeh, the worst profile on the 1..... . I am sure its great to drive, like every BMW out there......

I commend BMW for continuing to push the envelope, take risks, and try new things.
While not every model fits the needs of every customer, they continue to re-invent themselves even in a down economy. The technology in the GT and X6 will make its way into other models. So in the end, we all benefit.

Isn't this the F10 Forum?
This thread ought to be in a "GT" Forum. I thought this was the F10 Forum?

Alright, I understand the GT design has annoyed quite a few fans. But watch out, there are more coming. MB is planning a Coupe-Touring?? The world will be different.

BMW is testing our never - how much can we tolerate ultimate driving machine that looks ugly, how much can we tolerate autos that built by a great company but designed by a wierd rock-n-roll star.
I understand beauty is subjecttive. Looking at the same thing, someone call it "beautiful", someone else called "fugly", it's very normal. But, if saying "BMW's sales growth has proved Chris Bangle's design is a great success" as a fact, someone is really insulting others' IQ, especially those who treat BMW as driving machine rather than fashion. There are many BMW onwers like me who don't like Bangle's design but still bought BMW. The fact is - BMW's improvements in autos overweighs the Bangle's controversial design. It sells better because it drives better, even it looks ugly. Now BMW wants to know - how ugly it could go! Something I really don't understand, some one please educate me. The recent new models (3, 7, Z4) all indicate that BMW is de-Banglizing, discarding his design because there are so many who don't like his design. I guess that's why Bangle left BMW, because his design is no-longer welcomed. Then suddenly BMW throws out a very Bangle-ish thing? The only reason I could imagine is - BMW knows Bangle design is not welcomed so they don't want to risk the sales of 3/7/Z, but they don't expect 5 GT sells well, so it doesn't hurt much to give it a Bangle dress. That's what I called "BMW is testing our nerve".

I think the GT looks awesome. There are many vehicles like this out there already, and while they may not be branded as 'Ultimate Driving Machines', I can't see why someone who needs this kind of utility can't get the best of both worlds.
Here are some pics of an almost-ready-for-production version that was parked outside of BMWNA last night. I hope we get more than just the N64 in the U.S.: |
