Which wires do you have connected to the rheostat?

just like his first pics.......on the red wire that leads from the engine pos battery port to the fuse on the same jacks. It never did anything so I took it out and redid like before. There was not much wire to work with in there to begin with so now I'd prob have to get a new red lead if I tried again.

Only other thing I can think of is that since I have mine kicking on from the interior light it over-rides the rheostat.
- I don't have mine connected to the interior lights, so you could try disconnecting that wire.

- What brand of angel eyes do you have? They should all work the same way, but there may be something different.

- Could be a defective rheostat if you've wired everything else exactly the same way.

Don, I have the Orion V2's.......

Looking at it the wiring, I would assume that connecting the rheostat in between the power source (battery cable port) and the relay for the V2's would do the trick and allow you to dim them. I am just wondering if the darn brown wire overrides it when I either open the doors or hit the keyfob and in fact once I got the car started and so forth the rheo would kick in, I didn't test it and since I ripped all the stuff out and re-soldered the original wires prob won't for a while until I find out for sure.

thanks

I'll bump this just to say that since I had my bumper off again - epoxying the bumper slider brackets that keep coming loose on my fake M3 bumper as well as installing some of the JLevi projector fogs (since both mine were shattered), i went ahead and I re-did the rheostat install and sure enough it kicks on once the cycle of the interior light switch goes off and you actually key up the car. The V2 beasts are dimmed perfectly now with it turned all the way down.

EDIT
******************

The following pictures are with a mediocre digital camera with no tripod and a crappy lens and a slow manual shutter speed so everything is brighter than reality!

V2's in all their retina-burning, I can see it from outerspace, why bother having foglights anyway glory..........

V2's after Rheostat dimmer install (turned all the way down), much better.

I also did the dimming mod, thanks to this thread.

Here are the parts I purchased from RadioShack.

I placed the turn knob in the glove box.

Full blast.

Lowest dimming possible

OK, so I went with the 25-Ohm 3-Watt Rheostat and mounted it in the ashtray, Pic is withouth the knob, so you can see where it went. Problem I am having is that the Rheostat gets very hot and I am thinking that I need a different one. Has anyone got some advice and to what rating I should try?

Also, my dimming only works when the car is on. I have it wired for the doors as well, but the dimmer has no effect when only the door or interior lights are on. Also, when the car is on the dimmer has control, it does not matter if the inerior lights are on or not.

Little bit of a thread revival, but what the heck...

That's the beauty of a relay. It essentially gives you two working circuits, one for when your engine is on and one for when your engine is off, but interior lights are on.

Has any one set it up like the DRLs on the newer BMWs? Basically they're at their brightest when the headlights are off, and then dim when the headlights are on. I think I can figure out how to wire it in such a manner, though I'd need to know what value resistance dims it to the optimal level

Me LIKE! Me WANT!! Now that I have forsaken getting the performance airbox and CF strut brace, the AE's may be a good Xmas gift. Will still have to check with EAS if facelifted coupe sealed-headlamp AE's are available; want to get it right the FIRST time so I don't need to rebake the headlamps.

Ideally, I would like the following behavior:
  • On and tracking the interior lamps (dim up/dim down) when the car is unlocked and/or door opened, with a switch to disable if needed (stealth mode).
  • Max. brightness when headlamps in Park mode, instead of the peashooter minibulb in the corner of the high beam reflectors.
  • Reduced brightness when main beams are on.
  • Optional capability to turn and dim manually on from the dash, independent of all other considerations.
Is this possible to do?

That should all be possible, though that last bullet point will add a layer of complexity. I guess you could use two rheostats.

Keep in mind that the auroras don't fit facelift coupes
