Z4 Key fob operation of convertible top

Just bought my first z4 (2007 i model roadster). Didn't come with the owners manual so I keep discovering 'neat' features like the operation of the convertible top remotely with the key fob. Only trouble is that it seems somewhat intermittent in operation. If I"m right next to the car, I press the unlock button and hold it, nothing happens with the top. Press it again and hold it, eventually the windows go down and the top lowers. If I'm more than around 20 feet away it may stop going down half way through the process. What am I doing wrong? Thanks, MikeN

Not sure but on mine I have to hit the unlock button once...then hit it again and "hold" it down until the top has fully retracted...and mine will do it from about 10-15 feet max.

Also Z4 fob has very limited range. CHeck BMW's web site - you should be able to download a copy of the manual or order a new one from the dealer.
