7 Series - E65 / E66 (2002 - 2008)
Discussion of BMW's 4th generation E65/E66 7 Series flagship. The E65 generated much controversy, due to its radical styling and iDrive user difficulties. Nonetheless, the E65 broke records to become the best-selling 7-series iteration ever, especially after its 2005 facelift.

The inevitable iPhone 3G S and iPod thread

Okay, so did anybody pick up the 3G S iPhone who also has the iPod kit
installed? Where you able to play the iPod via idrive? Also if you have
the charger adapter, did the 3G S' battery charge. Thanks !

Yes it plays but it doesn't charge obviously. I need to get the adaptor since I was using my ipod before. I think I will keep my ipod in the glove box like normal and use the center console to plug in my iPhone for Pandora through the AUX input. Bluetooth works without a problem. COntacts are seen on the iDrive screen.

Does the adapter work only with a "naked" phone (i.e. no phone case attached)?

Are there other alternatives for phon connection? I know I can use BT. What about the accessory jack?

My iphone is not charging, but bluetooth and music through the adapter in middle console appears to work. Dealer says BMW is aware of the charging problem and is working on this.

I just tried this last night. I have the factory installed iPod adapter in the center console, and yes it doesn't charge, but I also cannot control the music through the dashboard like I could with the 1st generation. Says "Track not found" and can't read any of my play lists. The music does play through the speakers if I use the controls on the ipod itself. I don't have the iDrive/Navigation pannel. Just the standard dash. Anyone else having this problem? I'm not concerned about the charging, but would like to control my music through the radio controls.

I'm having the same problem after I just upgraded to software 3.0- only 1% of the time iPod appears on my radio screen, the rest of the time it just shows aux and usb as if nothing's connected. However if I try to access my iPod within my iPhone, it gets all skitzo and switches between screens by itself. Are the new cables coming out supposed to fix this?

I went from a first generation iPhone to a 3GS and it doesn't fit right in the dealer installed center console arrangement..
