120i HATCH for sale in TEXAS

If I can plate, insure and finance this vehicle... I would be all about it. Thoughts?

Must have been imported from Mexico. They sell them there.

Definitely an import, the gauges are also in kilometers/kph.

Neat little car though, and if imported properly I would think you should have no issue with it.

Wow - neat to see one for sale north of Mexico in NA!

Thoughts:
1) You may want to check with BMW NA to see what warranty coverage you have and also as to the original country that the car was built for - curious as to how they get it to pass US safety standards... is it a Mexican car or ?
2) Carfax and Carproof typically do not extend beyond Canada and US, so have a reputable body shop check it out for prev damage/repair evidence if you are not comfortable doing this yourself
3) Likely the sched maint and wear items will be your resp (again BMW NA can confirm)
4) Does your local dealer have the ability to support you on the car from a diagnostic and parts ordering standpoint - might want to talk to some of the senior tenured folks there as well.
5) Valid title? - salvage etc? Properly imported, EPA/smog/safety/state tested?
6) If the car was close and I was in market and 1-4 were satisfied for me, I would personally go for it! 5 would only be a determinant of the final transaction price.

I would be SHOCKED if it was legally here (not counting brought over by a student, etc- i.e. doesn't have to be exported in a certain amount fo time). Caveat emptor.

+1. Federalizing a 120i (ad says 128i, but picture shows 120i badge) would be next to impossible. BMW doesn't sell any four cylinder models, so that engine hasn't been shown to pass emissions. Then there's crash testing, etc. The fact that the guages don't show mph if proof its not federalized. Its not like the good old days when bringing in gray market cars was only mildly difficult.

Besides, I want a 120d or better a 123d.

Don't touch it. Potentially big trouble for the reasons others have stated.

That makes sense. Sounds like some poor Mexican drug mule lost his nice ride.

I did get an email back from the seller saying the same thing - that it must exported post purchase.
