E82 / E87 / E88 1 Series (2008 - 2013)
BMWs throw back to the iconic 2002, with a renewed form and function. The smallest car in BMW's line up but still packs a punch. Available in coupe or convertible, powered by a naturaly aspirated inline 6 in the 128 or the turbo twin power inline 6 rocket sled 135.

Real world city gas mileage for urban drivers please

Hi Guys,
Drove a 135i coupe automatic today, loved it, but yikes, 14.5 mpg. For those that drive primarily in the city, what gas mileage are you getting in the city? On average? Looking to hear from drivers that are 60-70-80% city driving.

Thanks in advance.

That number doesn't shock me, 135s drink some serious petrol under boost, and the dealer cars are all making short trips while cold with the twin snails spinning frequently . My 135 has been pretty steady at 20 mpg per tank, roughly 75% city 25% freeway driving on moderately congested roads. Some tanks in the 19 range, highest about 21. Pretty much right at the EPA ratings. I have a convertible also, the coupes may be a smidge better. Also my car is a step, but I've heard the manuals and autos run about the same on consumption. My driving style is pretty conservative with a mix of D and M mode (no DS), with an occasional WOT blast up to 5K or so through 2 or 3 gears.

I think the car gets pretty good mileage for the amount of power it has. Then again I'm coming from a 6 liter GTO that averaged about 14 in town.

Bottom line, the real world figures I've seen from owners are coming in right at the EPA numbers (between 17 and 25 depending on your driving environment and style).

Hope that helps.

Seems about right. I have the 535i with the same N54 Twin Turbo engine, and my mileage is about 23 mixed city/highway. Ive measured as low as 17 around town and as high as 30 on long trips.
