Anyone know how to change to steptronic transmission

Hi,
I drive a BMW 730 03 model. I want change from tiptronic to steptronic transmission so I can use the paddleshafts to change gears. I've read the manual and it tells me to press a button on my steering wheel and the change in transmission type will be confirmed in my info display on the dashboard. However after pressing the button there is no change on the info display and it seems as though the button has no effect. Anyone else had a similar problem? I would appreciate some help.

you should have a D-S-M button on the steering wheel above the buttons that control the CD track's. Press that once to get to Sport, twice to go into Manual mode, and three times to go back to regular Drive.

Thanks for your replies guys. I've sorted it. It wasnt working when the car was stationary. However I tried it again whilst driving and it worked

Yes, the car must be in 'Drive' so that you'll able to switch to sport or manual

As well it won't work in reverse since you can't really to much sporty driving in reverse with only 1 gear...

i used to have a honda prelude with a vtec engine and i would hit vtec in reverse, fun stuff

then i had an turbo Audi A4 and i would build up boost up in reverse and let the blow off valve release it into atmosphere, very cool when a car blows off in reverse, PSHHHHH
