real bad (it was fine 10 minutes before when i drove it). I took my truck (which was working fine, too) and dropped it off for her to use while I
struggled to get the van home to work on it. I was no sooner back home than she
called again. The truck won't crank. I drove our old, beat up standby Geo to

This bites.

Ok first off how many cars do you own???

Too dang many:

1985 BMW 325e
1985 BMW 635CSi
1987 Chevy Celebrity
1989 Geo Metro
1992 Chevy Lumina Euro
1993 BMW 325is
1995 BMW 318is
1995 Mercury Villager
1995 Chevy Blazer

oh, and a 1971 Firebird, straight six, three by the knee

It was the Villager and Blazer that bit the dust today, thanks to the Typhoid Mary of automobiles, my wife. The woman could wreck an anvil. I still love her, I just don't want her around my Bimmers!

Yes. And sometimes it's like going bear hunting with a willow branch. I am forever working on the next POS (or TWO) that broke down.

Y'know, I used to LIKE turning wrenches on cars. I've built street rods, dune buggies, and a bunch of regular daily drivers. Except for working on my BMWs, I don't like it much any more, and even the Bimmers get to me once in a while.

Yeah, it's fine to work on cars for fun, but not out of necessity.

From what i read style 5 wheels varies from vehicle model..

They came on a e38, e39 and e28....

They came in a 15", 16" and the most popular 17" 2 piece...

Brad, the wheel face doesnt vary, the mesh is always the same pattern. They're not Style 5s bro.

Ken, the problem isn't your wife, it's the vehicle choices. Lumina, Celebrity, Villager, Geo, etc...... Recipes for disaster!

Guess again. Lumina: 190,000 miles; Blazer: 220k; Celebrity (I've had two of them, both went over 220k miles), Geo...an incredible 348k miles and still running fine, not burning oil. Of all of my vehicles the Villager is the biggest pile of crap of all of them. It's falling apart at only 127k. I only bought it because I thought the Nissan drive train was just about bulletproof (it's the same as a Nissan Quest). It's been pure junk.

Something shorted today. Fack. Now I can turn my parking lights on with my fogs, but I cant turn my headlights on with my fogs on. If I leave the fog switch on, both lights wont go on I havent looked at anything yet, but I think I blew a relay. I got out and felt the fog relay and it was hot! If I turn the headlights on with the fog lamp switch off, I cant turn the fogs on. I know I shorted something because I smelled burning wires, then a huge puff of smoke came out of the vents. Could this have to do with the ground I ran to the fog relay? If I cant figure this out tomorrow I'm making a thread

Sounds like you are running too much power off the fog switch... What do you have connected with the fog lights???

Edit: what Gauge of wire are you using... If its too thin than thats one possibility....

Nothing. I fixed the fogs from yesterday though, and ran a ground to the side of the relay that runs back to the high beams. Now the interesting thing is the lights were working fine, and me being bored me while driving started playing with the high beam toggle. I left it on for a bit, and thought I smelled something wire-burning like. Oh well, popped the hood and everything smelled okay, so I didnt think anything of it. Went on driving, and the fogs went out while a huge puff of smoke came through the vents. Nice. Couldnt replicate this. This is also when I pulled off and felt the fog relay, which was hotttt. I think because I have no high beam lights installed, and I just jumped a ground to the relay, when I hit the high beam switch, it kind of "backlogged" the circuit and something blew. My relay is good because I can turn the fogs on still, but only with the parking lights on... Im gonna plug in my old high beams in tomorrow and see if this fixes it...
