I would love a f20c on my e36

Just cause I have mad respect for vtec engines...

But I believe a built m44 would be easy but expensive... I wouldn't have to worry about the wiring, tranny mounting, what rear diff to use, and etc..

I just wish that BMW had made these engines more robust out of the factory like Toyota did with the straight sixes in the Supras. Those things were built to withstand something crazy like 1000hp on stock internals.

wow! That sucks! I dont really have an email from them. I guess you can say I had it easy from the start for my buddy is the one thats in charge of everything. Whenever I need something, I just call him and head down to their HQ. He sponsored my team & me a while back when when smartwax was berly starting. Its a super good product, So good that its now envolved with MFest. You guys should look them up on facebook.
They are always updating on everything new they do... Just insane.
I love their product and will never switch to anything else

use a brick to keep them from squirming??

as for the 318 build, i dig the fact that the diesel crank fits. makes me want to get a ti and turbo it more now...apparently the exhaust mani will bolt up too, but i have not been able to confirm this w/pics...will keep looking.

as for why to do a bmw engine build vs swap (like an ls1), simple. just because i can, (maybe, sorta hope to...) and it'll be 'just another ti' until it opens up. no matter how hard you try, an ls1 sounds like an ls1, y'know??

They're almost always on sale at either Turner or BimmerWorld, I forget which place. Something like $35 per side. You could certainly find them cheaper used though.

Great! Now I need to open up the differential and get a new ///M bumper. No more shows for a little while.

Negative, not nearly that much power. You have to think, the Supras were built for boost, so their heads and headbolts are designed to take much more pressure than M50 motors.

Also, M50 based motor heads heavily outflow 2JZs.

Not very familiar with 2JZ stock short block figures, but the 7M could handle 600+ on a stock block no problem. The headbolts were the weak link by far. MHG, head studs, and proper torque and you were in business. The 56ftlb head bolt torque factory was a joke.

I'm saying the location of the stock head bolts/studs on the 2JZ, and how the cylinders are further apart, more meat for less chances of blowing the HG.

A couple stock M50 based motors ran 650whp with just head studs and .140 head gasket, for a few years actually.

Most say they're good for 500whp "reliably"

Yeah, found em at bimmerworld for $45 a pop, I couldn't find 'em from Turner except in a kit, ECS and Bavauto want $299 and $260 respectively. I'll probably end up going with Bimmerworld or find used ones. Do you know if I need to do the same thing for the back, because I couldn't find them for the rear.

minimum spec unit would be a fluke88, but i would suggest taking that amount of $ and purchase a power graphing meter, even if it's just a single channel unit. i could make some suggestions, but otc makes the units (or used to) for matco, and napa also sells them.

there are also plenty of units available online. the best suggestion would be to get a unit with an external fuse. the early units were internal fused, and were $$ to get repaired. they are probably still out there, but are very old. the unit i have is outdated as well, but since the unit still works, and i am familiar with ep diags, 'upgrading' is not necessary.

oh yeah, and i no longer wrench for a living...not that that would have anything to do with it...

You need M3 rear trailing arms.

ok guys, sittin here goin over some names for the bmw's in the stable.

i have an e28, and e36. my e32 went to the big autobahn in the next county over, so it's too late for that one. works for me, as i have one less name to settle on.

so, here ar some possibles. i want to get some feedback, and see which ones, if any, are taken.

anya
darya
katya
kira
varya

(notice how i like the sexy russian names that end in 'ya', cause, y'know, that is what guys like to hear from their wimminz, right?? )

just wanting to get some feedback. if you spot your rides name, and do not wish me to use it, just let me know. would like to know which name for which car, too...

Man, do I feel dumb for not having researched this conversion more thoroughly. Would it through off the bias of the system to just do the front for now?. Those trailing arms could get a little pricey.
