there are also plenty of units available online. the best suggestion would be to get a unit with an external fuse. the early units were internal fused, and were $$ to get repaired. they are probably still out there, but are very old. the unit i have is outdated as well, but since the unit still works, and i am familiar with ep diags, 'upgrading' is not necessary.

oh yeah, and i no longer wrench for a living...not that that would have anything to do with it...

i googled the meter you speak of but no price appeared how much do they usually go for?

Yea, I paid around $200 I think for a used set and rear subframe shipped.

You'll be fine just doing the front, after all, the non M and M rear pads are the same.

Cool, basically I found a set of all four calipers for $230 shipped and I jumped on it without much more research. At least swapping up to the M trailing arms is a good investment, in that they're stronger and if I ever do much in the way of power mods they won't break.

this is the unit i have. but older.
http://www.alltiresupply.com/p-OTC-3820.html

here's one under 1000.00 new, and uses a lap top.
http://www.picoauto.com/diagnostic-scopes.html

you could always look for them used on craigslist as well, ebay, and tool trucks. regardless of what you get, make sure that it has the manual.

then there are sites like smoghouse, and some other tech sites that have details as to how they work, what they can do, and how to maximise their potential.

i haven't used a dvom since i got it.

it was 30 @ wk off the tool truck when i worked in the shop. not sure what it would be now if i were to buy one off the truck.

if you were to go up with 200 down, i'm pretty sure there would be a local tool guy, snap on or other, that would work a deal with you.

if not, then they know who's got one for sale somewhere that he will not be willing to take in on trade. that one would be cheaper i'm sure.

these are also new, and, the pico unit would've been twice that price or more if it were to have come out about 10 years ago or so, i'm sure.

however, since i have had the thing, what, going on 10 years, it works out to less than 200 @ year, and it made me that much each week when i wrenched. it really was a no brainer. so were my impact swivel sockets and air ratchet. pricey, butt hey paid for themselves in the first month of ownership.

tools are expensive, but the most expensive ones are the ones that you pay for and do not use to their full capacity. i knew guys that had similar units that didn;t check anything but alternator diodes. such a waste of equipment...

that's why i would shop craigslist and ebay, read up on the features and benefits (not all units are upgradeable, internal vs external fused) attatchments and manuals, and the like.

now, it just sits in the basement, coming out when i need it. it owes me nothing.

Katya is pretty darn close to Katja, my 6er, but I don't care if you use it. I like Kira, but that's just because I knew a real hottie named Kira many years ago.

Well, you pooched the hood, the drivers fender, the wheel has a good chance of being bent, the bumper is shot, as is the nose panel, grilles, likely the radiator & supports, probably the front control arm, tie rod, and a lot else.
Oh, and your Smart Wax sponsorship likely is gone.

What happened?

This was actually a year ago. my buddy was speeding, random car cut us off, he swerved pretty hard and lost control. I bought it off him for a killer price! Once I took it apart, really wasent that bad.

Im gonna add to eds list of broken things and say the subframe on that side is likely bent as well. Fixable to be seen, but bent at least a few degrees

I actually did run away and bought my hellrot! Once a month or 2 passed, my buddy was super sad and depressed that he gave it to me super cheap! First day I got it, I took it to a bodyshop where they did all sorts of weird inspections and wouldnt you know it.... It was STILL perfect. I pretty much replaced everything. Lower arms, inner & outer tie-rods, suspension, LCA-brackets, pinion, welded and reinforced the rear, & etc. right now she handles like a dream. Just not that long ago I seen my buddy and he was heart broken that I have it in such good shape :]
