If your trunk is original, you could always get the VIN from underneath the license plate.

How ya gonna pop the hood with the doors locked? The hood release is inside.

How the HECK did you lock your keys in the car???? That's dang-near impossible with a BMW. You can't lock the door and then slam it shut. Your remote (if you have one) will be on your keyring, so it's inside the car, so you can't press the button to lock it. If you're in the car with the doors locked, to get out you will unlock the doors, and they don't relock themselves. I just want to know how you accomplished this feat (so I can avoid doing the same thing)

+1 about actually getting them locked inside.

As for the VIN, it's in about 30 places all over the car.

Yes, but since the VIN on the dash is covered on Chad Jr.'s car, that only leaves the VIN tag behind the license plate accessible in the event of a lockout situation.

I've read they're on the backside of both bumper covers too, but never verified this.

Yeah, I think they are, but unscrewing the license plate to access the VIN is considerably easier than removing a bumper.

Its simple. Parked, key to the off position. Open door, while drivers door is open I pressed down on the lock stem thing, which central-locked the whole car. Closed door and forgot about it, like I usually do. Except usually I have my key

My trunk isn't original so I couldn't do that. There are vin tags on the bumpers too, but my front bumper isn't original and you need to get in the trunk to remove the rear. So basically...it was a no win situation

I like this idea. Don't have any TPS right now... I sent them both to Chadley with the TBs he was supposed to powder coat months ago.

wait, you can use 318 axles with the medium case diff? I need to know because I'll be swapping in a medium-case and I was planning on using the 325 axles.

Better do do an alignment with almost new snow tires, or worn out performance tires (bald fronts, low tread in rear)?

Shouldn't matter, since they take their measurements from the wheels, right?

That's what I thought... But I remember this conversation popping up a few months ago and somebody was saying that it made a difference.

I could be wrong, but I really don't think it matters. I mean, they can perform alignments on 4x4 trucks with mud-terrain tires, etc., so they should have no trouble with your car, regardless of the wheels/tires you use.

I did, however, have a shop tell me they could not align my car because "BMW uses wheels which prevent us from being able to perform alignments using our equipment". Don't know what that means, since they just look like wheels to me. I took it to another shop (which does not specialize in BMWs) and they were able to do the job fine... I think I was getting brushed off, but I haven't a clue as to why.
