I think those were auto ones... They were too cheap. The title listed "manual", but the compatibility listed automatic cars...

Guys, my e30 radiator has a slow leak and Im going tomorrow to get a replacement. Im torn whether I want to get the m42 rad to clean the engine bay a little, or if I just want to go with what ive been running all along which is another m20 rad? The dude wants $60 for either one, but idk which one I want.

Reason im hesitant for the m42 one is ive read they dont cool down the engine as much, and bleeding the system is a bitch.. Plus my temp gauge isn't completely accurate (and not running an engine fan) so I dont want to take a risk not knowing if my engine is overheating without me knowing it.

But look how pretty this looks!!



Either that, or this (setup I have now)

Edit, I also don't know if you were aware of this, i just found it tonight looking for this issue:

"Praise be to the BMW engineers, because there is a hole in the 6 cylinder intake manifold that allows access to the top nut on the starter housing. It is actually a hole in the plastic webbing between the tubes for cylinders 5 & 6 (or 1 & 2?). With a carefully placed box wrench, you can get to the top nut on the back of the starter housing. I only discovered this & realized what it was while cleaning my manifold before re-installation. I found the attached photo online that clearly illustrates the hole I'm describing:"


I only bring it up since everyone I know who's replaced their clutch swore up and down over the need for 3' of extensions to get that top tranny bolt out.

That's the top STARTER nut/bolt, not the top bellhousing bolt they're talking about. You still can't get to the top bellhousing bolts through that hole.

Ah, I forgot about that hole. That was the nut and bolt that I couldn't get on. The bolt is easy, but getting the nut onto the bolt is a bitch. Maybe I could stick the nut into a socket and use that hole in the mani to reach it.

Indeed, i've been trying to convince myself not to get the m42 rad, but i'd like to clean my engine bay some more ... But I also really like the m20 cooling system, especially the self bleeding overflow tank! So id probably just stick with m20 one I guess

If you mount a pusher fan on the front of the rad facing the engine, you can run an m42 rad, heck if I find the one in my back yard ill give it to you just so you have either option

Haha, only thing is, I dont want to deal with an electric fan.. It doesn't get ridiculously hot out here for me to need one really, and if it does, then id probably just drive the brothers car since it has A/C and tan interior

I'll probably just get the m20 one since its a direct bolt on right now... But look into doing something else to the cooling system in the future. I have a lot of things to change up actually, will also do a new brake booster setup, cooling setup, exhaust setup... All in due time

Still doesn't explain the pilot bearing, though... I've just got a bad feeling that I'm gonna put a 328 flywheel in and have the same problem.

Yea dude, M3s had bigger clutches, not sure on 328 though. That's at least one issue.

I remember the guy I purchased my 318 from(and e30) telling me that the dealer gave him the wrong clutch for Lola...then blamed it on the fact that Lola had climate control so it had a different clutch

Don't know if that's true but seems illogical to me.

Ok, so here's what I've got so far, according to RealOEM.

325 flywheel - 228mm
328 clutch kit - 240mm
328/M3 flywheel - 240mm


Since M3 and 328 flywheels are the same, I should be able to use an M3 flywheel with the kit, right? I can't find any M52 flywheels, but I found a bunch of S52 ones.

Leaking oil from below vanos where gasket is ...this blows, now i gotta wait till guy comes back to fix it..

Dude that sucks. When I did mine the paper gasket had like fused to the head. I spent at least 2 hours using gasket remover and a razor blade and still didn't get it 100%. I got pretty much everything except around the bottom of the studs and it seems to have sealed.

I hope he makes it right.

He said same thing about paper gasket...he told me it was insane how stuck it was....ima put some high temp gasket maker around it to see if that fixes it while waiting on him...he'll make it right, jist suck...hes done hundreds of them and said few leak and im one of the few

I pulled the clutch disc, and it is definitely 240mm, so there is a lot of misinformation about this on the web. So I'm guessing I should be able to run an M3 flywheel now.


The only question is if the 328 will be able to handle the S52, which should have 280ish hp, and significantly more torque than an M52.
