Ok guyz.. As I mentioned before, I'm thinking of joining the reserves then going back to school. Here's my situation:

I already have a 2 year degree w/certification in Criminal Justice. I could easily get a job in border patrol/security. Not 100% I wanna be a cop and work 3rd shift for the next 15 years, get paid poorly ($40k roughly) for the type of work/danger you encounter, and have 95% of the population hate you.

I've always loved Psychology, and could go to UW Green Bay to major in it, and have 30 credits right off the bat from my CJ degree. I'd probably get a minor in a foreign language (German/Russian sound very interesting) and I already have 1 year of German and picked it up pretty quickly.

My question, what kind of jobs do you think are out there that would possibly be interested in my combination of degrees? Figure I'd also have a bit of military experience as well from the reserves...

I have been thinking of the CIA a lot lately; they hire a very diverse range of people (CJ or Military backgrounds are a huge plus), and certainly a degree in Psychology couldn't hurt, nor could a second language.. Thing is, according to their website its also a plus that you are able/willing to work overseas for 3+ months at a time, 2-3 times a year. You shouldn't let it be too known that you work for them, brag about it etc...

Opinions my dear festers?

Do you really get paid poorly as a cop out there? I know that around here, cops get good pay (60k, IIRC) for practically no danger (in my town), plus they get to retire after 25 years, I think it is.

Chad, as a rent-a-cop I'd make about 22k a year before taxes.

CJ, starting pay nationwide is pretty terrible, usually around $40-45k. By your 5th year it should be at least $50k depending on promotions, etc... Border patrol you can start off as high as 70K a year if you sign up for the hot spots were you get shot at nightly.

They have to be paid that much, otherwise nobody would work there, fo realz... Its one of the most corrupt, poorly run establishments in all of America. Plus the cost of living in CA vs WI is a lot different. A friend of mine started off at $72k a year in CA, then took a job back here in WI for $48k a year, and said the CA dept would have to pay him at least $100k to work there per year it was so bad

Yup, I don't doubt it.. I get freaked out just driving around East Oakland.. Can't imagine dealing with the criminals out there. One of my dads best friends (who's sons are my buddies) lived in East Oakland, and his older son got shot and killed a few years back .. When we used to visit, we'd hear gun shots on the regular.. Its crazy out there

Chad, East B is no joke, holmes.

Just last night I got in violent fight. I got jumped by the local gang, The B-Town Boiz, on my way to the local Raleys.

Unfortunately for them, they were unaware of my ph.d in kickboxing and I defeated said gang without losing my shopping list.

Being that I'm from WI, I could honestly probably get that job pretty easily. Our schooling system for CJ is very reputable, especially for a Tech school. Only issue is, I really dont know that I wanna be a cop. Most people tend to burn out after the first 10 years, then spend the next 15-20 being miserable, hating themselves, eventually they hate their spouse, then they hate the world and retire miserable old men with nothing of substance left. True story

I thought that was just people stuck in the Midwest in general.

Might not be bad to come out here and have an adventure for a few years to launch your career while you decide though. You could definitely live on a 5500/mo salary here.

Cops on long island make 100k a year, and the worst part of long island isn't even that bad.

Also put the ds2's on without spacers, and I love them, I just hate having such a wack fitment.

Might throw a 10mm in the front and a 15 in the back.
