Alan, I took compounding into consideration

That's about what I was figuring when I said consistently outperforming. 240/40 yr is my 6 year window. How's that bus coming, DF?

right on schedule....

sounded a bit optimistic to me, too, but then again, i am not a financial advisor.

maybe that's why i haven't retired yet??

and i knew about not being eligible for ssi at that age, which was one of those questions i had during the 'consult'.

i did get a second opinion, or at least try to. the meryl lynch advisor didn't even want to see me without an initial investment of 10k. my question to him was, 'who, at 18 has 10k to invest?? and if they *did*, why would they need a financial advisor??'.

needless to say that went over like a lead balloon.

but it did get me to thinking about money over time.

and yeah, i probably would have lost such a huge chunk of the investment with the crash.

so, does that count as 'saving' money?? (or is that just politician math?? )

I watched mine and my wife's 403(b) (non profit company version of a 401(k)) fall and loose 70% of its value. Still haven't recouped all of it. Owell.

I finally fixed my rear door lock and replaced the actuator. I never wish anyone to do that. Not hard, but frustrating.

And I was frustrated about the darn door lock, I plasti-dipped my washer tank. Thoughts?

Looks better than it did. Trust me... It was all stained with washer junk, part blue part green.
Pump had been leaking for a while.

The cap looks funny in the picture though.

Just ran some sea foam through my intake and it is smoking like a fire!!!
Its smoking way more than the you tube videos I saw and it smells bad too.

Is it normal?

How much smoke depends on how much carbon build up there is to burn off and how much Seafoam built up in the cylinders. Smoke is good, it means the Seafoam is doing its job.

I think I may have a vacuum leak in my brake booster. I have a turbo like whistle I can hear better from inside the car than from the engine compartment, I have power brakes but the effort feels higher than it should (definitely higher than my E46 by comparison), and when I hook my vacuum gauge directly to the manifold I get 19", but when I tee in with the brake booster connected in I get 17"-18". Also when I apply the brakes with the vacuum gauge teed in I get a vacuum drop (expected) but it takes several seconds to build back up to 17".
Anybody had this before?

Always wondered what would happen if carbon was removed that was built up over time and helping keep compression. Would blow by happen?
That's what's always kept me from introducing seafoam to my intake....

Generally other than carbon buildup on top of the piston on the combustion chamber surface of the cylinder head raising your compression ratio, carbon buildup rarely "improves" your compression. Carbon in the ring grooves in the pistons inhibits the proper movement of the rings in increases blow by. Carbon build up in the oil ring grooves inhibits their wiping action and increase oil consumption. Carbon build up on the valve heads can inhibit good sealing and reduce performance. Just some of the things carbon buildup can do.
A seafoam treatment can clean the top of the pistons, the first compression ring groove, the combustion chamber of the cylinder head, and the valve heads.

used the 3m headlight kit on my tucson. they were quite foggy. took pics of before and after but having technical difficulties....

think it would be similar with regular sandpaper of the same grit and rubbing compound.

in other news, couldn't get my brothers dremel, and the one i had broke. so still have some additional projects to get completed...

I dont know how big of a difference those bushings make over stock... mine are all stock and the guys a VAC drove my car after they aligned it and said they've never felt steering so sharp on a normal e36. My specs were kind of specific, but nothing out of the ordinary.

You will definitely notice a big difference over OEM FCABs with those UUC units installed. Stiffening up the FCABs is a no-brainer if you want to sharpen up your steering. I love my solid mounts.

Don't waste your money on mounts that have bushings in them. Check out the bimmerworld ones, or treehouse ones, they are fantastic and use only a delrin(sp?) solid insert. Never will you have any FCAB replacements, and they don't increase NVH at all. I did them as one of the first mods on the M3, and they are awesome.

These ones:

I think the price has gone up some though...

^I think that's what I paid for the BimmerWorld solid FCABs when I bought mine a few years back.

Edit: That's funny, it looks like I'm still the last one to have reviewed that product on their website.

Well, I definitely paid what they're asking now a few years ago. Maybe you're thinking of the eBay knockoffs that were going around for a while?

No, I got the bimmerworld ones, but I got control arms and some other stuff too, I just remember my total was over $500.00. They probably were that much.....

Just got back from a day at H2oi. It was alright.

Severe lack of BMW's, it was kind of sad. I'll have pics up eventually.
