I thought it should've been checked for frame damage as part of the appraisal?

Part of the reason insurance totals a car when repairs hit 2/3 - 3/4 of the value is because those estimates are only so good, and there's often more damage under the skin that isn't accounted for up front. They're not going to put it on a frame machine for an estimate.

It's too expensive to have a professional do it (Sansossio, the indie BMW shop of choice, estimated $5k by just looking at pics, and I won't pay that)

Who knows.....

Why not Jen? You'd be 5k in the black still.

Chad...you are spot on. They eyeballed it, think there might be a slight kink...but hard to tell without taking the fender off and getting it up on the lift. Insurance estimated 4 hours to get it on the lift and do any straightening.

Matt...I assumed the $5k autobody estimate was just for the sheetmetal work...assumed the autobody shop wouldn't put all the parts back on. Or am I wrong???? Do autobody shops do the labor part this as well??? (duh, I guess they did put the funmobile back together). Would that include the parts costs?

Only challenge is that it's not really driveable....so I would be incurring $100 tows for each place I take it for an estimate.

Decisions, decisions.....

I may have to keep it to get my $$$ back anyways. Top offer I've had is $4k including the Apex wheels...which are worth $1k on their own.

I'm trying to find out which VocTech gets the kids from my town's high school who want to study autobody. Figure they would be the best ones to 'accept' my car.

Matt...if I keep it, I may decide to boost it. Maybe fix the one thing I really don't like about it (the slowness). Might need your help :-)

So, let me ask you...would it be unusual for me to ask them to fix the frame damage and do the painting, but not the reassembling of the mechanicals??? I would feel much more comfortable (and the car have better residual value should I sell) if a professional does the body work.

Sorry if it's a dumb question....just don't want to pay them for something me, CJ and Dino could do on a sunny weekend....and Patrick, you too, if your wife and baby will give you a weekend pass :-)

Cant hurt, some places are flexable, some not so much.

With the 5er my shop had no issues with not doing the work they were getting paid for and doing the work I asked for instead.

A little psychological advertising trick....get some super cheap stock wheels for it and take new photos and relist at the same price and see what happens. Keep the wheels or list in a completely separate ad by themselves.

When people see the wheels in the ad they feel shorted if you're not throwing them in. After you've negotiated a price you feel good about you can offer them to the buyer. "hey, since you're buying this to (insert any reason here), you might like these wheels I have. They look really sharp and have better tires, I paid $x for them but since I'm selling the car I'd let then go with it for another $x if you want." Roll one up to the car as you say it so they can see it in front if the wheel.

If they could fix the frame damage without removing anything significant, then just have them do that. Scavenge part outs until you can find one with a good front end. Grab everything you can then bring just the fenders and bumper to get painted.

I do have the stock wheels....just couldn't do the changeover myself (even now it still hurts to lift stuff). Maybe I will do that...I have to catch up with Dino, first, though...he has the lugnuts

Audi passed inspection today

and even better, the exhaust if fixed, and the cost of all of this goodness?

$10, and a sixer of corona

Cant believe safety inspection only costs $10 now

Sixer was for the exhaust work.

Lol

Too much, but probably 25oo for a fester. Compete with tune injectors MAF all the way to exhaust.

I'll probably ask 35 on bfc.
