Take the whole light assembly out and it will become obvious. It's pretty difficult trying to do it with the lens assembly still in the spoiler.

Another BMW just doesn't really appeal to me, I don't really know why. E36s are too rattly, and I don't really want to "start over" with one. I like E46s, but its got sort of a "been there done that" feeling since I had one before the E36. I'd also like FWD or AWD. I have no problem driving a RWD car in the snow, but if I'm buying a 2nd car I'd like something a little more surefooted. Its not my driving ability I'm worried about, its everyone else around me in Northern VA traffic.

Touche sir. Touche. The Audi has more wheels to spin, 10 less HP, and more pudge to haul around than the GTI. And like you said, its a lot harder to get in there and fix all the extra stuff it has to break, so I'll probably stick with the GTI idea. If I'm patient I can get one with leather and heated seats, which are the biggest attractions to the A4 over the GTI anyway.

If I do end up buying a VW, I'll probably chip it just to perk it up a little. The turbo lag will be less desirable than the wall of instant torque out of a Honda V6, but I got used to planning throttle inputs a little earlier, it would scoot right along without feeling slow.

But I do remember doing the same thing with I commuted from Eastern Market area in DC, on 66 down to Fairfax, VA... I drove the Nissan Rogue most of the time rather than the 318. Unless I left super early to avoid traffic, or stayed really late. So I do understand what you mean.
I'd go for something with as small a payment as you can get. Cheaper the better...
Yeah, I think a VW might be where I land. We always had them growing up, they aren't as bad to work on as the AWD A4s, and they are far more interesting and fun to drive than their asian counterparts. I'm seeing them listed for $6-8k with under 100k miles, which would be a pretty wallet friendly payment.

Yes, you don't want to go through all of the hassle of an E36 maintenance program all over, but maybe something like Philip's club sport? I haven't heard of him selling it yet

Wow...Philip's Clubsport. The very first communication I had with BMW online communities was getting more information about this car. Guess I'm old hat now ;-)

If I wanted another E36 I'd buy my roommates. He has one of the cleanest stock cars I've ever seen and as far as I know the only thing it needs in the somewhat near future is a new clutch.

But we all know once you dropped the trans you'd notice the guibo was torn, then you'd have to replace the CSB for good measure, then you might as well replace that set of crusty looking diff bushings just for good measure, then the trailing arm bushings since you had it all apart anyway. Then, $1k later you'd put it all back together again and the first time you drove it the VANOS would start rattling like marbles in a coffee can and the radiator would blow off its left half.

And that's why I don't want another E36.

EDIT: Is this Phillip's red ti? What makes it a Club Sport? I didn't know there was such a thing until about 3 minutes ago when I googled it. And the only way I'd ever drive a ti was if it had 8 cylinders or 6 boosted ones, just for the looks I'd get. Those interiors are even worse than the regular E36, you have to try to get that bad.

Enlighten me oh bimmerfest vets. Is this the right page I should be looking at for my windows? Glazing=factory tint, right?

Glazing = glass to be set into a frame. You're in the right spot but you need to pick the tint that matches. Green or black (individual sun shading)

Thanks, I had the same assumption, but wanted to make sure. I'm pretty sure black is what I have. Safelite quoted me ~$300 and said they have matching tinted glass. Now to see about this damage on the B-pillar.

I'm thinking I might do it all myself. Except for dealing with the pull-up shade, I know how to deal with glass in the rear door, and the B-pillar might be doable (surface dmg) as well.

I would.

replacing the glass itself is pretty easy, the window shade probably comes off with the panel so I wouldn't worry about that. Luckily I've never had to do one of those B-pillars but I'm sure its pretty DIY friendly, just order a whole new set of clips or whatever holds it down because you know they'll explode into a million pieces when you pry the old one off.

Great, had to take the Rover in for a tire rotation for the stupid hazard warranty and I've got Johnny B Stoner working on my car. Hope my two piece lug nuts survive.

Guys...can you fill me in on wheels and tires?

From my research, the following 17 inch wheels will fit on zcps....
17X9 5-120 ET40 TRM>MT1-R
17X8.5 5-120 ET44 TRM MT1
17X8.5 5-120 ET44 SSR TYP C-RS
17X9 5-120 ET45 SSR TYP C-RS

But what the heck does this mean??

Standard m3 18s will also fit, but I thought smaller tires for winter driving was better....

The Style 44s we picked up where 16s, so they won't clear the zcp calipers. The Arc8s would fit, but they are 18, not ideal for winter driving.

So, I need the inbetween. But there are only certain 17s that fit...those 4 are from BMW literature...but I can't tell what the heck it means!

Dino...that e46 is nice!!!!
