By the way Jared, do you have the tools for separating tranny from engine?

I went to go pick up the engine yesterday since I was off and the trailer light converter in the Rover went out so I couldn't go get it. I think the rental trailer shorted it because it worked fine just a little bit ago on the boat. Wtf. Now I have to take off early from work one day to pick it up with the Disco.

On an E36 engine? The only tool you need is a couple of biceps. You do have those, right?

So the transmission is attached to the engine with magic and I just need to pull real hard to overcome the spell binding them together?

To separate it, you only need to pull

If you wanna unbolt the transmission, then you need external torx sockets.

Yes. I have these.

I have the Etorx bits. We'll need more 3/8" extensions than I currently have, but only for 2 or 3 of the bolts.

The 4-series is just a new name for the 3-series coupe. They are following Audi's A4/A5 model so they can get away with charging $10k more for giving two less doors. Just a stupid marketing ploy, which, while irritating, hopefully won't stop it from being an awesome car.

I think most rent a cop jobs are about 14/hr here.

Edit, Joey, ain't that the truth. Was just talking to one of Brittanys friends who moved here from rural Illinois, they were paying 600/mo for a 3br/2ba single family house. And I thought our 4/2 1800sqft at 1500/mo was a steal when I moved out of the Bay.....its just crazy how cheap things are outside of metro areas.

Yeah, if I had gone home to Roanoke instead of moving up here I could've rented a single family house with more space and amenities than I needed for well under $1k/mo.

The thing that keeps me sane is remembering that if I did live there, I wouldn't make $40k/yr and my lifestyle would be essentially the same after paying my bills. Also, finding a job would be a lot more difficult, especially in the web industry.

I actually kind of like that is a 4-banger. They are doing it about as right as you can. Twin scroll turbo so its got as little lag as a single-snail-4-banger can have, and doesn't it get like 34mph and it makes 240hp and weighs less than the E90 328i, its a win/win/win.

Supposedly we're also going to get something like a 320d (knowing them it'll be called a 328d) that will be a single turbo 2.0L diesel motor. If we actually get that thing here I just might buy one. It'll take 5 years for one to come down to what I'd be willing to pay for it, but that's pretty much my ideal configuration for a daily driver.

+1. I think the side "vent" looks like a tacky Autozone special, though.

Chad, you're pulling the engine right? Are you separating the tranny first, then pulling it? It may be easier to pull it all together as a whole.

Yea, too bad almost everything nowadays has those sweet vents from the factory.

Planning to do both as a unit, separate the tranny and attach to the new engine out of the car, and reinstall as one. Most everything I've read says thats easier.

Jared, thanks for the info, we should be good as long as you have the special socket.

ok guys...things seem to be getting a bit better....i seem to have found a few additional links and such from bouncing around from one site to another and believe i have found a few sources for my friends laptop...

yay me!!

and thanks guys, for your help.

apparently these components are not called 'on/off buttons', or 'power buttons', but 'power button board'

nothing listed or found on toshibas site, but i found some on ebay.

and i took a look at an e38. not feeling it....looks like way too much to put into for what i want. so i will wait for the right one....which could be easier said than done.

also may have sourced a 'donor' m5x motor to play with for my supercharger fabrication. can't *wait* to play with the sparkle wrench again!!!

We aren't even that close to the city, its 30 minutes without traffic to get downtown.

If you add up all of our payments, we spent a little over $24k to land there for a year, in a 1000 sq ft 2BR with a separated 1 car garage. The total value of the lease on the townhouse is something like $30k, and we'll be lucky if the landlord doesn't try to jack the rent up on us when we resign.
My tennats will pay me about $21,000 in 12 months. however, you should see my carrying costs... but i'm not going to jack up the rent because my costs go up. Going rent is what it is. owell.

And its hard to compare hourly to a full year salary. Many companies have different ideas of what working hours are. I can't give to much away, but we have limits on the amount of hours we can bill our government clients on a yearly basis...
