I just don't get them. A true wagon looks so much better. This thing looks like a hippo.

A very ugly hippo with wide set hips.

Who does BMW think is going to buy these hideous GTs?

Americans.

I really don't know. I was appalled when I first found out they were doing a 3GT. I'm guessing it was because the 5GT was such a runaway sales success.... /sarcasm

I thought the GT was designed with NA market in mind since we've traditionally been pretty down on wagons. I know Europe likes wagons better but I don't know about rest of world.

Maybe I have it backwards. Anyone know where we can look up sales figures? From what I've heard the 5GT is a disappointment here.

That's what I thought, too. I was under the impression that they sold hardly any here.

It was a joke, they didn't sell hardly any here. It was a total bomb. They thought they would have a bunch of conquest sales and it would do well since crossovers are so hot. Instead, most of the buyers were cross shopping the 7 so they actually lost buyers who were going to spend more. To add to it, many previous 5 wagon buyers went and bought E wagons. Oops.

That's why it baffles me they're doing it again. And I think ROW still prefers wagons.

Also noted, 100% of people with functioning eyeballs prefer the wagon to the GT.

The only conquest sales they're going to get are blind people who want to step up from the Honda Crosstour.... I think Honda sold about six of those, right?

In other news... Man, the idea of an LS E36 will never escape me.

I think the rate in which the fluids my car is leaking has picked up.

Leaking from oil pan gasket, rear trans output shaft seal, and one spot on the VCG due to a broke bolt that some dumbass broke.

I love the S60 R so hard, however, its a Haldex AWD system, which apparently likes to break and only engages the back wheels when it detects slip at the front anyway. It also has a fully adjustable air suspension setup, which its totally awesome but very problematic and very expensive, apparently worse than the Mercedes airmatic suspension.

Since the ones I was looking at were in the 75-100k mile range, I quickly threw that idea out.

I have to agree/disagree.

The s60 is a PITA, ESPECIALLY the R (AWD) and the p2 transmission is a complete pile of . The 4c suspension is nice when it works, but as Joey said, it's about $1200 per corner when it goes, although I have to say it doesn't fail as fast as one might think. The Haldex on the AWD system goes about every 60k and is $600+ just for the part and it's about a 6-8 hour install (as me how I know ). The parts are marginally more expensive, it's FWD for the non-R versions and a boat-load of computer controlled systems. It's harder to work on than the e36 (read: more specialized tools), limited literature on DIY repairs or modifications, and the aftermarket is very limited (therefore those companies have a monopoly on the market).

All that being said, I really enjoyed owning one and working on many others. It's a heavy car, but surprisingly quick. Not as composed as the e36, but it definetely is underrated in terms of power. With a few bolt-on mods (and plug-in tune) I was pushing ~240 hp at ~8psi (2.4T, not R) if I remember correctly. It's quite luxurious in the interior with lots of creature comforts. Decent mileage and a great commuter car that you could have a bit of fun with.

Yeah, I'm definitely NOT buying a Volvo. Aside from the old breadboxes, they haven't really done much for me. I like the 9-3s because they are a zippy little E46 sized sports sedan (that happens to be FWD) but the volvos are kind of like a less interesting 5 series. If I was going to get an S60-sized car I'd prefer to have a nice E39 or a very, very, very, very clean E34.

I know those feels.

Oil pan and VCG (depending on where the bolt is broken) shouldn't be too bad, if you're gonna tackle the trans seal you might as well do the guibo, and csb while you're in there.

well, in that case, shouldn't you be spelling it "guiubuou", since yuuz all like extras where they don't belong...

and i dig the 94-98900 hatches, as long as they are manual and turbo'd.

and not silver....

volvos, i like pretty much all of the wagons from the 240 up to the 850, to the v70, until they went and put that big ol ugly plastic bumper on in 97 and started calling it an xc70 crossover...i can do without those...

again, manuals are required....awd > fwd on the newer models.
