It really is gorgeous, but it will be expensive. The reason for the nomenclature switch is purely so they can charge more for it and make it seem more exclusive to new car buyers. The A5 is a 2-door A4 and its like $8k more or something.

Also, wtf is up with the late-70s-style leather braiding on the seats and door inserts? Looks like a hippie's belt. The rest of the car is awesome but god that's ugly.

Yup all true. It's absurd.

It's even in the cup holders, I saw that and was laughing. Definitely a hippie on the interior design team. And leather plus condensation from cold drinks, wonder how long till that looks like crap. The Germans really CANT design a decent cup holder to save their lives. :rofl

I think that's an Individual interior. At least I hope it's not standard equipment.

The series change allows for a more diverse lineup. Generally BMW includes nicer things in higher series numbers. From my experience, my 6er was basically a 2 door 5 series, but it had noticeably nicer things inside than a 5. Not so nice as to be a 7, but definitely better than a 5. Expect the same here. There is some overlap, but you're going to get a nice car in the 4 vs the 3. Now, that doesn't account for the price difference completely. Most of that has been determined to be from volume effects. They make and sell way more 4 doors than 2 doors.

Seriously. It doesn't even flow with the car. Maybe if it was a new VW Microbus concept or something, but not in a svelte, low to the ground, all-business BMW coupe.

I think the new 4-Series looks great, but the fake vent thing on the side totally kills it for me. I can't believe they put a Pep Boys special doodad on the front quarter panels...

I mean, really?!

But as a door handle fetishist, I am loving the door handles.

Still, BMW isn't Rolls Royce, you can't just do anything you want on Individual. Why is this even an option?

I was under the impression the vent was functional. If for any reason it's not, I've lost all faith completely in BMW.

And a door handle fetish? Really?!

The vent doesn't look functional to me from the photo. It might be on the M4, but I'd seriously doubt it on the non-M versions. Probably just has an integrated side turn signal or something. Regardless, it's beyond ugly.

And yes, I love me a well-designed door handle. They're so often made ugly or plain, which is a shame, since they're so visible on a car, and you interact with it every time you get in.

Also, on an unrelated note, I just realized that my B'Fest paid membership has just expired. I think I bought in at the same time a lot of others here did, since we had a big membership push a year or so ago. Just a reminder to re-up if your membership expired like mine, and if you aren't a paying member (but are a regular), it's time to pay to play!

Mine, too. It comes out of my Paypal account every 6 months. Last time I got a thank you email from Tim (site admin) I suggested having a one year supporting membership option. He didn't reply, but probably just super-busy.

4 series looks like a mini sixer with stick on fender vents, hoping its better in person. Meh.

It's important to remember that those 4-Series images are of the concept car, not the production version. Looks like the production version seen in this spy photo will have ugly door handles and smaller but still very hideous side louvers .

And here I was getting all excited about some door handles... Serves me right.

Yeah, we'll see. By looking at the spy photo, it does appear that the production version still has those huge openings in the front & rear bumpers. A bit busy for my taste, but some people like it.

Those concept door handles are absolutely gorgeous.

My buddy's family owns a house moving business in my hometown. They recently just moved a really old, historic building in town because the new owners were going to tear is down.

Anyway- have a look. Its really neat.

4 series looks pretty good in concept form, but I'm still calling it a disappointment as I see the spy pictures. I'm sure it will be overweight, and will probably end up being totally bland looking like every other new BMW.
